MALOTO, INC seeks a highly motivated, experienced and personable fundraiser to join this well-regarded international aid organization as its first full-time Development Officer. This is an extraordinary opportunity to make a major impact at this ten year old organization dedicated to bringing lasting change to Malawi, Africa. With a budget of just under $1M, Maloto has grown over the years and has met many programmatic goals. Currently, all revenue is raised from contributions and grants. As a result, this key position will be engaged in every aspect of external communications, fundraising, board development, outreach and planning. This new employee is key to the organization’s future as they help build a strong and broad base of on-going contributed support.
As a young organization, Maloto has a group of dedicated Board, volunteers and part time staff. Everyone works together as a team. This full-time, salaried Development Officer reports to the Founding President. In the short term, in order to accommodate the President traveling, this position will report to a volunteer non-profit manager who knows the organization well.
The Development Officer is responsible for the following:
Create an annual fundraising plan to reach financial goals, together with key Board Members and consultant;
Develop and execute a communications strategy to engage current and former donors through regular mail, email, social media and website;
Provide staff support to very active Board Members – engage in list management, outreach, solicitations as appropriate and follow up throughout the year;
Together with the Board Chair and Founding President, grow the current Board and deepen their engagement in fundraising;
Write all key development materials including Annual Report, foundation grants acknowledgement and solicitation letters;
Engage the Young Professionals Board in reaching development external relations goals – website development, social media communications, special crowdfunding campaigns;
Plan and execute any fundraisers or friend-raisers to support development goals including Board trips;
Build the annual budgeted goals for contributed revenue together with key Board and staff;
Establish internal development systems, files, database management and contributed revenue accounting using best practices in the field.
In the first six months, among other tasks, the Development Officer will specifically:
Establish personal connections with each active Board Member and review their individual fundraising history and future plans;
Assist in implementing each individualized outreach plan for the Board with their lists;
Create a communications plan to reach each donor/past donor with at least two personalized communications before December 1, 2015;
Develop and implement a calendar year-end solicitation campaign via direct mail/email and reinforced online;
Begin to research private foundations that may be appropriate for future fundraising;
Become thoroughly familiar with all programs of Maloto, likely joining the Founding President in Malawi to experience the activities first-hand.
The successful candidate will:
Have strong communications skills in person and in writing;

Exhibit confidence and inquisitiveness;
Be willing, adaptable and a team-player;
Pay attention to detail and follow-through;
Possess computer skills, specifically Word, Excel and Powerpoint.
Bachelor’s degree required. Minimum three (3) years of experience in development or related field, preferably in social or direct services, education or international aid relief. This position may work in Maloto’s office in Nyack, New York or be located within the Tri-State area, as needed and agreed upon.
