Development / Referral Coordinator – Street Level Health Project – Oakland, CA

Organization: Street Level Health Project is an Oakland-based non-profit organization dedicated to improving the health and well-being of underserved, urban, immigrant communities in the Bay Area. Street Level is “a safety net of the safety net” and serves as a point of entry to accessing health and other services for those most often overlooked and neglected, namely the uninsured underinsured, and recently arrived.

The Oakland Workers’ Collective (OWC) is a project of Street Level and was launched in March 2012. OWC is a worker-driven collective committed to building community among Oakland day laborers. We provide popular education workshops to help inform workers about their rights, create a safe and healthy avenue for connecting day laborers with employers, advocate for policies that support immigrants, and partner with other organizations that are committed to advancing the lives of low-wage immigrant workers. The OWC’s three primary focus areas are:

Occupational health trainings which serve as a preventive measure and teach workers how to have a healthy and safe work environment.
Leadership development which empower workers to become leaders and active participants in policies and issues that directly affect the lives of day laborers.
Job referrals through the OWC’s phone line which help give workers the opportunity to be called for a possible short term job without having to lose a potential day of work out on the streets.

We are looking to hire a Job Referral and Development coordinator who is committed to collaborating with our Lead Organizer to build a sustainable and empowering program, in particular with the job referral and development piece that connects workers to dignified jobs.
