SUMMARY
The director, corporate relations reports to the vice president, development to lead the Council’s corporate fundraising strategies and engage corporations in the work of the Council. The director initiates and develops new corporate relationships, securing financial support through membership, sponsorship, and project support as well as manages a team of two assistant directors.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
Raise annual corporate membership budget and corporate sponsorship budgets for programs and studies throughout the organization
Oversee corporate renewals, identify opportunities for corporations to increase their giving, and minimize attrition
Expand the roster of corporate members by identifying, cultivating, and soliciting potential corporate donors in Chicago, the Midwest, and abroad
Secure corporate sponsorships for programs, studies, and other Council activities, working collaboratively with colleagues on other teams
Directly solicit corporate contributions during in-person meetings and phone calls
Prepare senior staff, the president, and members of the board of directors for corporate fundraising meetings and phone calls; prepare and disseminate internal readout reports detailing important phone calls and meetings with corporate constituents that outline current or potential intersections with Council activities
Develop strategies for the members-only quarterly Corporate Leadership Breakfasts activities
Identify international business interests of member and non-member companies, and provide feedback to Council colleagues about corporate constituents’ priority global policy topics and geographic interests
Assess the market value of sponsorship offerings, maintain consistency of sponsorship processes, and provide corporate members and prospective sponsors with multiple opportunities to sponsor Council activities; collaborate with the events team to raise corporate sponsorships for the Council’s annual fundraising dinner
Collaborate with staff in major gifts to identify individual executives within the corporate constituency who are prospects for individual giving and identify individual donors whose companies could become corporate donors
Attend Council activities with a strong corporate presence, including some evening and early morning hours
Supervise Assistant Directors, Corporate Relations
Perform other projects as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
8-10 years fundraising experience, preferably in corporate development with a non-profit organization, including track record of securing five and six figure contributions
A bachelor’s degree with a focus on business, international affairs, or related field of study
Ability to initiate and build relationships with corporate leaders, including C-suite executives, corporate/community relations officers, and corporate foundation directors
Experience managing staff, budgets, and fundraising plans/timelines
Excellent verbal, written, and listening communication skills
Self-starter, creative, and driven to achieve and exceed financial goals
Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and maintain collegial working relationships with staff members at all levels
Ability and willingness to work evening and early morning events and travel occasionally to company offices beyond downtown Chicago
