Director of Capital / Growth – DataKind – Brooklyn, NY

ABOUT DATAKIND

We harness the power of data science in the service of humanity. We bring volunteer data scientists together with organizations that are dedicated to solving the world’s most pressing challenges.

How it works?

Mission driven organizations come to us with their data science needs. We then work to understand their pain points, how their organization works and, most importantly, how their data and other data sources can be used to make the biggest impact on the world.

We’ve helped the World Bank estimate poverty from satellite imagery, teamed with the Grameen Foundation to improve their mobile knowledge programs in Uganda, and joined the Red Cross in using fire data and open city data to understand where fires are most likely to occur.

ABOUT THE ROLE: DIRECTOR OF CAPITAL & GROWTH

DataKind is facing a great challenge – we have an abundance of options to build our business, an abundance of partnerships to manage, and more opportunities to seize than our current team can support. The Director of Capital & Growth will create long-term value for the organization through cultivating relationships, generating new revenue models, and enhancing existing monetization efforts. Working closely with our Executive Director and our Development Associate, you will identify strong opportunities and strategically build a multi-dimensional ecosystem of partnerships. You will envision where DataKind products can bring effective change and deliver the most impact to organizations, while also developing new sustainable profit streams.

WHO YOU ARE:

A FOLLOW-UP ARTIST: You love nothing more than finding new and creative ways to get people what they need. You’ve worked in fundraising, sales, or business development and have mastered the art of resourcefulness. Whether you’ve been working with foundation funders or Fortune 500 leaders, you understand how to bring revenue into a company while giving everyone what they want.

A CHALLENGE SEEKER: From bringing life to failing business models to cracking a smile on the most hard-hearted person’s face, you thrive on solving the seemingly unsolvable. Limitations are just opportunities to show off your creativity. You look for new ways to help people and communities to prosper and expand your own levels of achievement.

A TRAILBLAZER: You live outside of the box. To you, “innovation” and “growth hacking” are just buzz words to describe your natural thought process. Putting ideas into action are like manufacturing your own little inventions and you fill your world with them. You’re never one to reinvent the wheel, but the places you’re going don’t usually have roads there yet.

A GENUINE PEOPLE PERSON: You love all kinds of people, from all kinds of places, doing all kinds of things. You love making new friends without an agenda, yet you know who you can reach out to when you need a cup of flour. You understand how to make quality connections and have a social network that is as strong as it is wide.
