Director of Development and Public Relations – Neighborhood Housing Services of Waterbury

AGENCY OVERVIEW:Neighborhood Housing Services of Waterbury, Inc. (NHSW) is a non-profit, HUD certified organization founded in 1980 with the purpose of revitalizing neighborhoods and creating homeownership opportunities throughout the city of Waterbury and 21 other communities in Western Connecticut, including Danbury, Litchfield, and Torrington.

MISSION STATEMENT:Our mission is to revitalize our community through an inclusive approach by providing quality affordable housing, advancing community development initiatives, and fostering financial education, self-sufficiency, and vibrant neighborhoods.

FUNCTION:Develop, oversee and manage all development initiatives in conjunction with Board of Directors, Executive Director and staff to support organizational goals and to build relationships and create positive and memorable impressions about the organization with all current and prospective donors and funders. S/he will grow the current donor list, as well as be expected to develop dynamic fund raising strategies focused on engaging and soliciting, and stewarding current donors and prospects.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

In collaboration with the Executive Director, design and implement annual development plan, goals, strategies, timetables and budgets for each annual giving fundraising activity

Manage annual fund, including ensuring mailing packages and e-appeals are correctly produced and delivered in a timely fashion

Develop campaign materials (letters, emails, acknowledgements, inserts)

In collaboration with the Executive Director and board to attract new donors, retain and upgrade current donors, and increase net annual fundraising revenue

Provide leadership to staff and Board on fundraising and marketing efforts, including sharing of best practices and providing tools, information and resources to strengthen these efforts

Generate monthly reports on fundraising results for Resource Development Committee and Board

Supervise all aspects of fundraising database, including gift entry and acknowledgment. Ensure all gifts are properly recorded and promptly acknowledged

Report progress, challenges and opportunities to Executive Director and Resource Development Committee

Work with Board and Resource Development Committee to identify new major gift prospects

Develop and manage donor campaign, including oversight of production and mailing of campaign letters, brochures and envelopes

Ensure prompt acknowledgment and stewardship of all donors and gifts

Serve as a resource for Board members and committees. Actively serve on Resource Development Committee and other committees as needed

With the Executive Director and Board, plan all aspects of NHSW events

Develop, plan and execute other special events for specific NHSW programs as required

Work with Board and Resource Development Committee to identify new prospects for event sponsorship

Coordinate all aspects of corporate sponsorship solicitation

Direct marketing of events, including social media and press

Oversight responsibility for all external communications, including thank-you letters, newsletters, monthly e-newsletters, annual report, web content, print pieces and social media presence, with assistance from the Executive Director

Cultivate and nurture relationships with current and potential corporate and foundation sponsors and individual donors

QUALIFICATIONS:

A minimum of 3 years experience in development, communications and/or programs with success in cultivating and maintaining relationships with stakeholders and individual, corporate, foundation and government funders

Able to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing

Highly organized and systematic with strong time management skills and ability to juggle competing priorities and deadlines

Attention to detail, flexible and comfortable in a fast-paced environment with shifting priorities

Able to work independently; and exercises initiative and good judgment in independent decision making

Ability to write clearly and concisely as well as edit copy for clarity and grammatical accuracy

Good public speaking and presentation skills

Punctual, reliable and accountable

Must have the ability to travel extensively throughout the regional area of NHSW

Able to work a flexible schedule on occasion (daytimes, evening, weekends) as business needs dictate for cultivation events and initiatives
