DESCRIPTION
Empowerment Through Integration (ETI) is a 501(c)3 certified non-profit that is changing the narrative surrounding disability both for blind and sighted youth. We create integrated, supportive spaces with life skills training, emotional support, and community service opportunities. Through these integrated spaces, they are able to break down internal and external barriers surrounding views on ability in order to create positive change in society. Our ultimate goal is to enable society to understand that inclusion of all is a value for all.
ETI is currently seeking a Development Director to lead the Development Team with various fundraising and donor activities. The Development Director will conduct grant research, create a strategic plan, and explore funding opportunities for ETI. This individual will need to be passionate, organized, reliable, and detail-oriented.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The ETI Development Director will work to supplement ETI’s earned income by promoting sustainable and renewable philanthropic dollars from individuals, foundations, and corporations.
Specific tasks include:
Fundraising (50%)
● In collaboration with others, adapt and execute the annual fundraising plan
● Collaborate with the Founder/ President (and, on occasion, other staff) to identify, research, cultivate, solicit, and steward individual and institutional prospects and donors
● Develop and pursue strategies for new donor acquisition
● Develop and implement effective fundraising appeals (both written and online) and platforms (such as monthly sustainers) that will lead to sustained and upgraded giving
● Personally solicit assigned prospects to make a financial contribution to ETI
● Plan and execute donor cultivation events
● Conduct prospect research to identify new potential donors and determine appropriate ask amounts for existing prospects
● Research, write, and compile grant proposals
● Identify and solicit new grant opportunities that align with the mission and goals of the organization, and produce follow up reports and grant tracking
Management (20%)
● Oversee the development team which consists of volunteers and interns. May be expected to oversee the work of fundraising-related consultants or volunteers for specific projects
Building Partnerships (20%)
● Work with ETI President on outreach to similar organizations in order to build strategic partnerships
● Help to maintain current organizational partnerships
Other (10%)
● Prepare high-quality reports, mailings, and acknowledgements
● Act as a key leader in sharing and promoting the work, needs and success of the organization with donors, volunteers, and community members
● Contribute to ETI newsletter and social media strategy, assist External Relations Director in drafting press releases highlighting organizational success and pitch to publications, create timely blog posts to ensure website content remains current and relevant
● Participate in professional meetings and/or conferences, and contribute to publications, misc. to increase and maintain ETI visibility
REQUIRED and DESIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
● Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, or equivalent combination of education and work experience
● 5 years experience in a fundraising position, with strong preference for experience at the manager level or above
● Experience with both individual and institutional fundraising strongly preferred
● Proven success in developing and implementing appeals through both traditional and emerging methodologies strongly preferred
● Knowledge of international, national and local (Boston) funders preferred, with knowledge of, and relationships with, the Boston fundraising community essential
● Personal solicitation experience
● Basic knowledge of communications and marketing techniques
● Excellent written and oral communication skills required (a writing sample may be required of final candidates)
● Demonstrated ability to plan and execute small donor cultivation events
● Interest in mentoring other staff and volunteers in fundraising and development
● Commitment to the mission and vision of ETI
● High level of comfort in working in a collaborative environment with ability to be flexible as circumstances evolve
● Superior attention to detail
● Experience using all Microsoft Office programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Project, and Publisher
