Overview:
The National Council of Jewish Women New York Section (NCJW NY) seeks a dynamic fundraising professional to lead NCJW NY’s development efforts. In consultation with the Executive Director and key members of the Board, the Director of Development will create a comprehensive annual development plan to maintain and then grow NCJW NY’s $1 million in fundraising revenues, and will be responsible for the plan’s execution.
Reporting Relationships:
The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director and will have extensive interaction with Board members and key funders and stakeholders. The Director of Development will supervise the Development & Communications Associate, who will assist the Director in all fundraising efforts.
Specific responsibilities will include:
Individual Giving:
Create and execute individual fundraising appeals, both print and electronic.
Oversee management and growth of the donor database.
Create a plan and strategy for increasing major gifts; identify major gift prospects both within and outside of NCJW NY’s current donor base and engage in cultivation and stewardship.
Provide research, guidance and facilitation for Executive Director and Board members in obtaining meetings, scheduling site visits, and making asks.
Special Events:
Assist the Executive Director in managing all aspects of a $500K annual gala, helping to coordinate with the Board, the honorees, and the venue to ensure a successful event.
Conceive and execute two to three smaller fundraising events to complement the gala, often in partnership with volunteer committees.
Work with the Director of Outreach & Engagement, Board members and other key supporters to create and execute several small cultivation events throughout the year.
Institutional Giving:
Research promising grant opportunities from corporate and foundation sources.
Cultivate relationships with foundation and corporate giving officers.
Generate and submit grant proposals, reports, and renewals.
Requirements and Desired Characteristics:
– College Degree
– Five years’ manager-level experience in the fundraising field, preferably with a variety of experience in individual giving, special events, and foundation grants.
– Knowledge of Jewish philanthropic community a plus.
– Facility with Microsoft Office applications and donor database software. Experience with DonorPerfect a plus.
– Excellent communication skills, both written and oral. Ability to make a persuasive case for support of NCJW NY.
– Sound judgment and ability to handle sensitive issues.
– Strong commitment to the mission of NCJW.
– Ability to interact comfortably with diverse stakeholders in a community-based agency setting, ranging from low-income clients to high-level donors.
– Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
– Balance of strategic, long-term thinking as well as flexibility and responsiveness when opportunities arise.
