Organization:
On any given day there are a startling 3,500 homeless families seeking shelter, help, support and safety in King County. Since 1999 Mary’s Place has been empowering homeless women, children and families to reclaim their lives, operating a day center and four emergency family night shelters in Seattle. Mary’s Place serves hundreds of women and children annually, with over 35,000 visits last year to our day center alone.
Position description:
We are seeking a passionate, dedicated, professional, experienced and successful fundraising leader to be our Director of Development. As a member of the senior leadership team at Mary’s Place, the lucky candidate will personally experience the life changing impact of their work each and every day. We seek an inclusive team player to accelerate the organization’s fundraising success, expand a thriving individual giving program, and further mobilize our already engaged Board and volunteers.
Key Responsibilities:
Fund Development, Planning and Major Gifts (75%)
Develop and implement a measurable annual development plan to retain and attract a broad base of support from individuals, major donors, corporate donors, grant makers, and workplace giving.
Create, implement and oversee a successful of a year-end annual campaign.
Evaluate and report on progress toward goals. Actively manage changes or additions to the plan, as needed.
Leverage and expand major gifts, including corporate and individual donors:
Actively steward, implement and manage all activities related to stewarding, attracting and securing major gifts.
Lead a targeted plan to identify and qualify major gift leads
Personally cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of major donors
Engage and support key staff, board and committee members in major gift stewardship and cultivation activities
Develop, implement, and manage a compelling donor recognition and stewardship program.
Manage and analyze donor data and communications with eTapestry donor software.
Events (15%)
Lead the successful planning and production of site tours and fundraising events, including Annual Luncheon and major donor house parties, ensuring all events are strategic, effective, and maximized to their full potential.
Leadership and Management (10%)
Supervise donor relations (1), grant writing (1), volunteer coordinator (1) staff and consultants/vendors as appropriate
Partner with the Executive Director to thoughtfully manage her leadership and involvement in fundraising, particularly major gifts.
Serve as lead staff liaison to the fundraising, events, and communications committees.
Collaborate with other members of staff to advance organizational capacity for efficient revenue tracking processes.
Oversee the ongoing integrity of the donor database (eTapestry) and processing of all gift entries and acknowledgements.
Skills/Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree and minimum five years of nonprofit experience of managing and growing a budget of $2+ million
Demonstrated success developing outstanding relationships with individual and corporate donors
Demonstrated ability to successfully ask for major gifts
Strategic thinker who can multi-task and prioritize
Demonstrated leadership in a team setting working with others to accomplish fundraising objectives
Strong event coordination experience
Public speaking skills, and the ability to communicate ideas with enthusiasm to diverse audiences
Demonstrated management, supervisory and organizational skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office and donor database software (experience with eTapestry a plus)
Highly motivated, resourceful, flexible, and possesses a positive attitude and sense of humor
Strong understanding of and commitment to the Mary’s Place’s mission of empowering homeless women
