Director of Development – San Rafael – Canal Alliance

Canal Alliance is seeking a Director of Development. The successful candidate will have a broad-based fundraising experience and an understanding of the immigrant experience.

Canal Alliance’s mission is “to help low-income, Spanish speaking newcomers acquire the tools they need to thrive.” We use a proven service model to prepare our clientele to manage stress, access resources, be job ready, manage finances, use technology, be bilingual (English speaking), be immigration ready, and for our youth to obtain a 4-year diploma.

Position Summary
Canal Alliance is seeking an experienced and creative professional to lead fund development efforts and to work with a progressive and engaged Board of Directors.

The Director of Development (DOD) will report directly to the Executive Director and will lead a team consisting of a Grant Manager, a Development Associate, and will work closely with our Marketing Manager.

Canal Alliance has a broad-based portfolio consisting of 2,000+ individuals 60+ foundations and 25 corporate donors.

Responsibilities:
Strategy and Administration
Create and implement fundraising strategies with measurable outcomes
Establish goals and develop clear, results-oriented plans to secure $4 million in annual funding
Successfully recruit new donors
Develop and manage department budget
Manage development team to successfully achieve departmental goals
Oversee board giving and getting;
Work closely with the Executive Director
Work with Marketing Manager to increase visibility and reach for the organization
Serve as an effective spokesperson and ambassador for the organization with foundations, corporate partners, donors and other community partners

Major Donor Development
Develop and implement strategies for the identification, cultivation, and solicitation of current and new major donors ($10k+)
Build and maintain ongoing relationships with donors, and encourage their increasing commitment to Canal Alliance

Institutional Giving Program:
Establish and meet ambitious goals for increasing foundation and corporate grants, focusing on an increase in unrestricted funds.
Support Grant Manager in administration of foundation and corporate grants as well as agency contracts with responsibility for deadlines and assignments
Strengthen foundation and corporate partner relationships
Support program growth and longevity with the cultivation of unrestricted funds

Additional Qualifications:
At least 7 years of relevant experience, leadership and team management
Track record of revenue generation, and proven success securing major gifts
Strategic and creative ability to identify and obtain new funding
Maturity, discretion and diplomacy to represent Canal Alliance well
Knowledge of Marin County’s philanthropic community a plus
Belief in Canal Alliance’s mission
An understanding of challenges facing newcomers in the US
Excellent technical skills, including solid understanding of SalesForce
Bilingual/bicultural, Spanish/English a plus
A good sense of humor a must
