SUMMARY
Spirit Rock has an immediate opening for a dynamic Director of Programs (DP), reporting to the Executive Director and works in close partnership with our Co-Guiding Teachers, Phillip Moffit and Sally Armstrong. The DP’s goal is to expand and deepen Spirit Rock’s impact, influence, and effectiveness in bringing the Dharma to the western world. The DP is responsible for overall programming (residential, non-residential and online), achieving organizational and program goals. The DP ensures strong relationships with teachers and other stakeholders including key media partnerships. The DP leads a team of program staff who are directly responsible for all Spirit Rock programming, and the Family and Volunteer Programs. The DP is a key member of the Director’s team with leadership in organizational effectiveness, strategic clarity, and fiduciary oversight of the Programs Department. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
In collaboration with the Executive Director (ED), Co-Guiding Teachers (GT) and our Governing Teacher Council (GTC), craft strategic goals for short-term and long-term program success.
Expand programs through envisioning, designing, gaining approval for, and implementing programs, program changes and initiatives including overall responsibility to program Spirit Rock’s new Community Meditation Hall.
Oversee marketing strategies to maximize program attendance.
Build strong relationships with the Spirit Rock teachers, including the Teacher Council, visiting teachers/presenters and our Teacher Trainees.
Work with lead teachers to design — and coordinate with Retreat/Event Operations staff to implement — multi-year retreat programs, online programs, and other programs.
The DP directly manages a staff of three and is a key member of several Spirit Rock governing committees.
QUALIFICATIONS
A passion for the mission of Spirit Rock and a deep understanding and practice in Theravada teachings.
5-8 years of program/curriculum development experience.
Exceptional leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills, as well as strong director-level skills—the ability to supervise and mentor other managers.
Prior experience in marketing and building partnerships.
Prior experience with online program development.
Ability to translate big picture strategy into a detailed implementation plan.
Strategic thinking required of senior management serving on an executive team.
Experience with Spirit Rock’s programs, mission, and dharma practices is critical and required for this role, given its direct contact with teachers and program development.
