In a world dominated by GDP and quarterly earnings, critical aspects of social progress are left under-prioritized, underfunded and marginalized. The Social Progress Imperative is changing this paradox by redefining what success is and putting things that matter to real people’s lives at the top of the agenda—are they safe, healthy and free? Our annual Social Progress Index is a global benchmarking of countries’ social performance to provide a more complete view on how a society is truly developing. But the Index is not just a research and measurement tool; it is also a catalyst for action. The Index has been adopted by governments, businesses and communities around the world to identify their greatest social challenges and prioritize and accelerate policies, actions and investments to improve the lives of everyday people.
