Quetzaltrekkers Nicragua is a volunteer-run non-profit organization that raises money in order to support local community development projects. Quetzaltrekkers offers adventurous hikes to the volcanoes of northwestern Nicaragua and other tourist sites. The projects we support provide educational, psychological and familial assistance to at-risk and low-income youth in and around the area.
Quetzaltrekkers is currently looking for a new Director! This is a full-time position for someone who is creative, proactive, hard-working, interested in community development, and enjoys adventurous outdoor activities. Expect 45-50 hours a week, an exciting work/play environment, and pay which is comparable to basic Nicaraguan wages. It is an extremely rewarding job, León is a fantastic city, and QT provides a mountain(s) of experience and responsibility you´re unlikely to find anywhere else. This is a minimum 18 month commitment (with 24-month availability highly preferred), and we seek to have someone on the ground to begin training by February 1st (earlier availability will also be considered).
Reports to: Management Board Direct Reports: Assistant Director, Accountant, Two Local Guides, 8-12 international volunteers
Description of Responsibilities
Ensure overall success of the business operations and support of the organziations Quetzaltrekkers funds. At the end of the day, the Director is responsible for setting and meeting ambitious goals for the organization.
Coordinate with Management Board and assistant director on short and long term strategic planning of the organization
Select, hire and manage a full crew of international volunteers and local staff
Coordinate with Management Board to ensure compliance with government regulations
Carry through the decions made by the Management Board in a responsable way
Oversee and ensure accuracy of all finances and accounting, reviewing and implementing new financial procedures as needs arise
Lead the evaluation process to monitor progress of our local community partner organizations
Direct tour operations, including managing logistics, evaluating tours and planning strategic use of company resources
Provide volunteer support, including training, management, and cultural adjustment
Direct promotion and publicity of the organization, including social media outlets and mounting promotional events
Lead single and multi-day hikes to volcanoes
Work directly with youth in our local community development organizations
Description of Qualifications (necessary)
2-3 years minimum professional working experience in business administracion
Minimum 4 year degree (Master degree in Busines and/or Tourism preferred)
Advance Spanish (spoken) and Fluent English skills (spoken and written)
Previous experience in management of staff and/or volunteers
Knowledge of accounting norms and best practices
Interest in community development projects
Social Media and Marketing Knowledge
Good physical condition (able to hike with a heavy backpack in a hot climate)
Proactive, friendly and responsable in nature
Minimum 18 month commitment (24 months highly preferred!)
