Director of Programs and Service Innovation (Aging, Nutrition, Mobility)

Over the next five years the organization will expand its services to meet the needs of the fastest aging county in California. The future of Whistlestop includes developing a five-story 14,000 sq.ft. affordable senior housing and state-of-the-art active aging services center, breaking ground in 2017.
Whistlestop seeks to hire a Director of Programs and Services to lead strategy and innovation and day to day management of mission related, non-transportation business areas. As part of the executive team, The Director Programs reports to the CEO and manages four direct report program managers in each of the service delivery areas:
Active Aging Services: Active aging center activities and the multicultural department;
Nutrition Services Program: including the Jackson Café, Meals on Wheels and home-delivered grocery program;
Mobility Services Program: a rapidly growing and evolving community mobility management program;
Volunteer Services Program which of oversees more than 140+ instructors and meals on wheels drivers and more.
The Director of Programs and Service Innovation needs to be a systems thinking, forward looking manager with a passion for innovation in active aging. This person should have experience in new program development, fundraising/pitching, strategic analysis, planning and deploying change in services environment.
Leadership
Passion for introducing innovation into active aging services. Ability to promote an environment of innovation, risk-taking and change in program delivery.
Ability to collaboratively conceive, support, produce and get approval for new program delivery methods
Actively helping program managers, staff and clients cope with, welcome and embrace innovation and change in programs by developing systems, policies, and processes needed to manage current and projected activities
Monitor trends in the industry and the competitive landscape, and participate in the development and implementation of periodic strategic plans
Promote the mission and vision of Whistlestop as a thought leader and advocate for innovation in active aging
Establish strong relationships with the Board of Directors; attend Board meetings and staff Board committees at the direction of the CEO
Management
Lead the development of annual program plans that delineate operational and performance goals for each program area, and financial strategies, plans and budgets
Day to day management responsibility for ongoing program delivery of direct budget of about 1.5M
Inspire, motivate and develop program managers to reach personal, team and organizational goals
Help managers create and implement metrics and reporting that will drive new programs, new funding sources and operational decision-making.
Develop strong program relationships with community groups, venues to support distributed and collaborative programming.
Create and oversee new programs that increase access to affordable, nutritious food & community connection for older adults.
Manage budgets to ensure that programs, projects, and grants meet or exceed financial goals.
Desired Skills and Experience
Minimum of 8-10 years of progressive responsibility for leading services teams in an entrepreneurial setting
Master’s degree in business or public administration, social work or equivalent work experience.
Excellent presentation and communications skills
Advanced Excel, Word, PowerPoint, email, CRM and project management tools, ability to identify and introduce productivity tools to teams.
