The Tandana Foundation is looking for an energetic, detail-oriented person to lead our programs near Otavalo, Ecuador. The Ecuador Program Manager will plan, coordinate, and follow up on group volunteer programs as well as managing staff and interns and overseeing the scholarship program and community projects. She or he will build strong relationships with community members, manage and evaluate community projects, maintain excellent communication both within the organization and with various stakeholders, and lead our effort to improve and expand our Ecuador programs.
The ideal candidate will be someone who has experience with the cultures of both Ecuador and the United States, fluency in both English and Spanish and a background in experiential education programs. We are seeking a candidate who easily develops rapport with people from all walks of life, who is passionate about helping to build bridges between cultures, and who doesn’t mind juggling a lot of responsibilities. He or she will also need to be meticulous in his/her care and use of the funds that our donors have entrusted to us; detailed record keeping and transparency are very important. The ideal Ecuador Program Manager will actively join with the Executive Director in strategic thinking about new programs and better ways to serve the communities with whom we are involved and the volunteers who dedicate their time. She or he will be ready to take a leadership role in crafting a respectful, responsible, inclusive organizational culture.
Responsibilities
Oversee volunteer programs in Ecuador
Prepare for program itineraries
Arrange details with community members
Hire, train, orient, and manage Program Coordinators
Ensure that programs are evaluated and improved each time
Manage supplies inventories
Take on Emergency Contact responsibilities during Ecuador programs.
Oversee Cursos Vacacionales (Summer School)
Hire and manage a Cursos Coordinator
Oversee curriculum and evaluation
Oversee patient follow up
Manage Patient Follow Up Coordinator and interns working on Patient Follow-Up
Coordinate staff and board in the making of policies
Oversee scholarship program
Manage Scholarship Coordinator
Coordinate staff and board in the making of policies
Oversee community projects
Manage Logistics Manager
Approve small projects and seek ED approval for larger ones
Evaluate project impact
Select and manage interns in Ecuador
Select appropriate candidates and prepare them for a successful experience
Arrange volunteer placements and host families
Orient, support, and manage volunteers while they are in Ecuador
Provide support to host families before, during, and after volunteers’ stays
Work with Ecuadorian bureaucracies to obtain necessary authorizations, paperwork, etc.
Live in Ecuador, either Quichinche or Otavalo
Maintain old and build new relationships with communities and individuals in Quichinche
Be available for volunteers and Program Coordinators to call on for support
Communications and promotion
Provide material related to Ecuador programs for website, blog, social media, and supporter updates
Maintain close communication with the Executive Director
Improve communication with a wide variety of community members
