Executive Director – After School All Stars – Washington, DC

Organization Background:

Founded in 1992, After-School All-Stars is a national non-profit organization which provides free, daily afterschool programs to nearly 72,000 children in need on nearly 350 school sites in 15 chapters across the U.S. Offering 3 hours of daily programs that combine Academic, Enrichment, and Health and Fitness activities, ASAS is responding to America’s high school dropout, youth obesity, student empowerment and economic crises. Finishing just its second year in Washington DC, ASAS is serving nearly 300 students at Stuart-Hobson Middle School in Ward 6 and Hart Middle School in Ward 8, with potential to expand to more sites in the next three years.

A Unique Opportunity:

ASAS is currently seeking an exceptional and dynamic leader as the Executive Director (ED), reporting to the ASAS National Vice President of Chapter Support, also based in Washington DC. The Executive Director’s primary responsibilities will involve working closely with the VP of Chapter Support, the ASAS DC Advisory Board and local staff as well as the ASAS national program and development teams to oversee and expand quality afterschool programming thoughout DC while developing and executing the ASAS DC fundraising plan. The Executive Director will also be responsible for building and maintaining strong relationships with key stakeholders, including: partner schools, board members, staff, government agencies, foundations and program partners.

Responsibilities:

Vision and Strategy

Develop and execute the vision for ASAS’s expansion in DC.
Oversee and grow quality afterschool programming at all partner schools.
Serve as a representative of ASAS in key local and national meetings, conferences, and coalitions in DC.
Work with President, National Network to develop national and local advocacy strategy and support afterschool advocacy efforts.
Develop a DC Board of Advisors and work with the Board to strategize, plan, and solicit major sponsors and donors.

Organizational Management

Provide ongoing overall management of ASAS DC in conjunction with the national leadership team and ASAS DC Board.
Provide ongoing overall management of ASAS DC staff, budget and office.
Secure school sites and partner CBOs who will host the ASAS program.
Conduct appropriate evaluation to ensure feedback from stakeholders.

Development and Marketing

Develop and implement a fundraising strategy to support the goals, objectives and activities of ASAS DC.
Manage internal processes for tracking donors, prospects, sponsors and funding, including maintaining accurate records of relationships, deadlines, and funding requirements and ensuring compliance with applicable reporting guidelines.
Raise funds from corporations, foundations, individuals and government agencies.
Plan and execute fundraising and community awareness events.
Prepare and distribute, as appropriate, all needed materials for soliciting sponsors.
Research and write or supervise the preparation of grant applications or sponsorship proposals.
Develop, manage and maintain relationships with media and use them to communicate the message of After-School All-Stars and promote appropriate events.
Implement social media and online communication strategy.
Work with colleagues across the ASAS national network to share information, resources, and leads and collaborate on national efforts.
Ensure that marketing and fund development are carried out in keeping with the organization’s values, mission, vision and plans.
Travel to off-site meetings, trainings, and events.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Who should apply?

The Executive Director is expected to be experienced in the field of nonprofit fund development with demonstrated success in managing programs and cultivating individual donors, corporate sponsorships, and foundation grants. The Executive Director should embody ASAS’s core values: accountable, collaborative, transparent, proactive, and entrepreneurial. Strong written and oral communication skills are essential. An understanding of the local non-profit, education landscape and a successful fundraising track record in DC is preferable. Prior advocacy work a plus. An undergraduate degree is required.
