The Association for Cultural Equity seeks to fill the position of Executive Director beginning in September, 2015. The position is initially part time, 20 hours per week, with a salary dependent on prior work history. The preferred candidate will have an advanced degree (Ph.D preferred) in Ethnomusicology, Anthropology, or Folklore, have a record of scholarship, work in the public sector, and non-profit management including fundraising.
ACE was founded by Alan Lomax to explore and preserve the world’s expressive traditions with humanistic commitment and scientific engagement. ACE was registered as a charitable organization in the State of New York in 1983, and is housed at the Brookdale Campus of Hunter College in New York City.
Executive Director, Association for Cultural Equity (ACE)
Develop and manage dissemination and repatriation projects from the resources of the Alan Lomax Collection. Liaise with The American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress, and develop partnerships and collaborations with universities, museums, national and international partner organizations, and community-based organizations.
Oversee continuing restoration, cataloging, and long-term digital preservation of audio field recordings, photographs, film, video, and manuscripts from the Alan Lomax Collection. Support continuing development of the Global Jukebox Project.
Supervise and evaluate ACE staff and interns.
Develop and manage fundraising for ACE including: finding and following through on grant opportunities from public and private sources; work with the Associate Director to prepare applications. budgets, and reports for grants; oversee funded projects.
Work with ACE Board President to achieve long-term goals, bring in new board members. Schedule, and with Associate Director, prepare for annual ACE Board Meetings.
Work with Associate Director on ACE website development, media and social media strategies, strategies for publicizing repatriation events, exhibits, and education initiatives.
Represent ACE at panels, presentations and symposia.
