About Children Today

Founded in 1997, the mission of Children Today is to foster long-term stability and success in children and families who are facing homelessness or who are involved in the child welfare system. We do this by providing trauma-informed child development and family support services.

Our vision is that all children under age six who have experienced homelessness or abuse and neglect will have a safe, nurturing place to spend their days playing, learning and growing, while their parents take steps towards stability.

A Summary of the Executive Director Position

The Executive Director is responsible to the Board of Directors for the day-to-day management, consistent with the organization’s mission and strategic plan. The Executive Director provides leadership to achievement of the organization’s goals, to securing strong community support, and to building the organization’s capacity. The Executive Director is responsible for a budget of $1.2 million and will lead a small and effective team.

The Executive Director will be a proven leader with relevant experience in people management, operational oversight, and strategic planning. This position will serve as the face of the Children Today brand in the community, demonstrating the ability to communicate effectively with all constituencies in the community. The Executive Director will be skilled at establishing and maintaining positive relationships, and will be able to navigate political waters and initiate appropriate responses. The Executive Director will be a recognized leader with the ability, vision, and energy to continue our success and take Children Today to the next level.

The Executive Director will be responsible for five key areas:

Resource Development and Community Engagement
Governance and Strategic Planning
Human Resources
Program Management
Financial Management

Requirements and Qualifications

A Master’s Degree in Social Work or other related field, or licensure as a MFT, or LCSW.
A minimum of five years of experience in nonprofit management at a senior management level.
Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
Excellent organization skills.
Ability to lead and work with a diverse group of people.
Able to attend networking and community events and build relationships.
Experience fundraising, including writing grants.
