HomeAid Puget Sound is seeking an Executive Director to provide leadership in accomplishing its mission… to build new lives for America’s homeless though housing and community outreach. The Executive Director is responsible for planning, promoting and developing HomeAid build and community outreach programs in the Puget Sound region. Major HomeAid programs include: a) building and repairing facilities for nonprofits serving homeless and b) gathering essential products and hygiene supplies for homeless.

HomeAid is one of the largest builders of housing for homeless in the country. Locally, it has built housing that provides 63,000 bed nights annually for the area’s homeless.

The new Executive Director will provide leadership and build lasting relationships with community service groups, nonprofit organizations serving homeless, the building industry, local government and potential funders. He/she will work with a committed board of directors and serve as a primary spokesperson and representative of the organization. The ability to interact with diverse constituencies and network effectively among those serving transitionally homeless, affordable housing groups, builders, building trades, philanthropic groups, funding organizations and donors will be key to success in this position.

HomeAid Puget Sound Executive Director – Position Description

Position Summary: The Executive Director (ED) is the key, full-time person that oversees all activities of the HomeAid chapter. The ED is responsible for promoting and executing, with the board of directors, the HomeAid mission; which is to build new lives for America’s homeless through housing and community outreach. The mission is accomplished through cash contributions and in-kind donations by representatives of the building industry. Programs include: a) building and repairing facilities for nonprofits serving homeless and b) gathering essential products and hygiene supplies for homeless.

The ED provides leadership and builds lasting relationships with community service groups, other nonprofit organizations, the building industry, local government and potential funders.

Reports to: HomeAid Puget Sound board of directors

Major Duties:

Serves as primary spokesperson and representative for HomeAid to the building industry, community groups, donors, sponsors, media, local government and other chapters.
Works collaboratively with board of directors in identifying strategic direction and in implementing a strategic plan.
Provides guidance and information to board of directors leading to planning, policies and programs.
Supports the board of directors in carrying out board determined goals and objectives.
Responsible for working with board and committee members in identifying, recruiting and selecting appropriate builder captains for projects.
Communicates regularly with the board of directors regarding chapter activities.
Serves as primary contact with homeless shelter directors and builder captains on new projects and assists HomeAid project liaison to effectively work with shelters through the completion of projects.
Oversees the implementation of effective fund development programs that may include grants, corporate donor programs, sponsorships and fundraising events.
Serves as HomeAid representative to major donors, along with board members.
Coordinates with government agencies for public funding opportunities.
Develops and maintains a system for maintaining relationships with the media, nonprofits serving homeless, building industry, donors, sponsors, funders and volunteers.
Prepares news releases and other media oriented communications to keep the press, HomeAid partners, constituencies and the community informed.
Oversees staff development and management.
Oversees chapter finances, budget and cash flow. Interacts with bookkeeper and auditor.
Maintains chapter compliance with applicable HomeAid America policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Excellent oral presentation and written communication skills. Ability to write in a variety of styles.
Ability to interact effectively in the building industry.
Ability to interact with diverse constituencies and network effectively among those serving transitional homeless, affordable housing groups, builders, builder trades, philanthropic organizations, government agencies, funding organizations and donors.
Ability to initiate and implement community service projects.
An understanding of government in relation to homelessness and affordable housing.
Ability to recruit board members, volunteers and potential donors.
Ability to identify and capitalize upon funding opportunities (grants, sponsorships, donations, events, etc.)
Ability to effectively manage group dynamics, decision-making processes and develop consensus when there are diverse viewpoints.
Experience reporting to an elected board of directors, executive committee, commission or other multiple supervising entities.
Experience in either nonprofit or building industry management is preferred, but not required.
