ORGANIZATION
Acton Community Access Television, Inc. (“ActonTV”) is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) corporation that manages Public, Education and Government Access television in the Town of Acton, MA.
ActonTV is a membership organization, devoted to public access television and the citizens who make it possible. Our members are independent producers and create programming for themselves or the organization they represent. By law, public access is open to all citizens and to all viewpoints for only noncommercial purposes.
Position Summary
The Executive Director (ED) will report to the Board of the Directors with his/her primary liaison being the President of ActonTV. The ED will oversee a new, state-of-the-art 4,800 square foot television studio, and lead the organization into the forefront of public access television. The ED’s key responsibility will be to reach out to the residents and businesses of Acton and make ActonTV a relevant and dynamic resource to the community. The ED will also be responsible for the administrative, financial and editorial oversight of ActonTV, thereby ensuring the editorial excellence of the station.
RESPONSIBILITIES
Community Outreach
Serve as the face of ActonTV within the community.
Reach out to the community to determine how the station can become a community resource.
Partner with Board to create a plan for growth of new programming, viewership and active station participants.
Increase awareness of the station by giving ActonTV a distinctive brand, and leverage the opportunities for involvement for the community.
Build and maintain a close working relationship with representatives of civic institutions, organizations, and community leaders in Acton.
Develop and coordinate an active volunteer program.
Administrative
Lead and support staff to promote productivity, professional development and job satisfaction.
Manage day to day operations of the station.
Develop and implement operational policies and procedures.
Present a monthly operations report to the Board of Directors describing current activities, accomplishments, potential problem areas, productivity metrics and finances.
Ensure full compliance with ActonTV Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the town of Acton, prepare quarterly and annual reports containing required information for the President of the Board of Directors to present to the town of Acton through its Board of Selectmen.
Technical
Manage the overall operation of ActonTV production facilities and equipment.
Ensure station is operational 24 hours each day.
Partner with technical resources to create a plan for continuing the ongoing move towards a hi-definition production workflow.
Financial
Prepare, propose and implement an approved annual budget.
Ensure compliance with ActonTV contracts and monitor operating expenses to assure cost-effective operations and purchasing procedures to implement responsible fiscal processes.
Pursue and incorporate additional revenue sources through a variety of fundraising and entrepreneurial activities consistent with the mission of the organization.
Compliance and Board-related responsibilities
Keeps abreast of legal and best practices for 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations
Working with ActonTV Board and outside accountants, ensure that the organization’s regulatory filing obligations with federal, state and community agencies are met in a timely fashion
Works with the President to provide input for Board agendas
Keeps Board members informed about issues, needs and operation of this organization
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be an energetic, self-directed, engaging leader with a passion for the ActonTV mission.
Understand and implement business development plan
Excellent verbal and written communications skills, including public speaking .
Ability to outreach to and work with diverse groups, individuals, ideas and opinions
Experience in project planning; management; and fiscal administration
Excellent computer and internet skills
Technically proficient
Able to work a flexible schedule including evening and weekend hours as needed
Prior experience managing a start-up company, nonprofit organization, or division preferred.
Bachelor’s degree in management, communications or other relevant area required
A minimum of five (5) years of managerial and/or administrative experience in related areas such as community media, cable, public administration, nonprofit management, or the arts.
Nonprofit experience preferred.
