Since 1987, PCAF (Pierce County AIDS Foundation) has stood on the front lines fighting HIV/AIDS, combating the persistent stigma carried by the disease, and bringing compassion and justice to a community deeply affected by the epidemic. Today, our organization is ready to end AIDS.
PCAF is seeking an Executive Director to lead our organization and the South Puget Sound through the next pivotal chapter in our history where we effectively remove the threat of HIV and its associated stigma. The ideal candidate for this position will have a strong commitment to social justice and a passion for our mission. We are looking for an individual who can think strategically and mobilize our community around the cause.
Mission Statement: Pierce County AIDS Foundation, through education and service, prevents HIV infection, assists persons affected by HIV/AIDS, addresses related health problems, and combats associated stigma and discrimination.
Job Description:
The Executive Director reports directly to the Board of Directors. The Board meets on a monthly basis and its work is overseen by an Executive Committee, which includes the Board President, Past President, Treasurer, and members-at-large.
The Deputy Director, Development and Communications Director, and Finance Director report directly to the Executive Director.
Primary Responsibilities:
Provide vision and strategic planning for the organization as it pertains to effective continuation of care for people with HIV and ending the AIDS epidemic in Pierce, Thurston, and Lewis Counties. Specifically direct local efforts to reduce the number of new HIV infections by 50% by 2020 in Washington State.
Model cultural humility and a deep understanding of diversity for staff, board, and community as the face of PCAF.
Mobilize the local community across all sectors, and spearhead efforts to reduce HIV stigma by addressing root cause discrimination and raising awareness about the impacts of HIV/AIDS.
Collaborate with other social justice and social service organizations to advance civil rights for individuals most impacted by, and/or at risk for HIV.
Advocate for inclusive accessibility to all necessary services and a resilient health system for persons with HIV.
Assist in formulating and leading the agency’s public policy agenda on local, state, and national levels.
Advocate for legislative reforms, changes in governing policies and procedures, and program funding related to the goals and mission of PCAF.
Work closely with the Deputy Director to ensure quality in all internal operations, including HIV medical case management and prevention services.
Provide leadership to the Director of Finance in developing annual agency budget. Ensure the financial health of the organization through regular oversight of the agency financials, cash flow, and long range financial planning.
Work closely with the Director of Development and Communications to develop and implement a media and PR strategy. Serve as the primary spokesperson for the agency with all media outlets and public speaking engagements. Be “on call” for media interviews and image consultation with staff.
Assume lead role in new and ongoing donor recruitment and cultivation. Network extensively in Pierce and South Sound counties to expand financial support for PCAF. Work closely with the Director of Development and Communications to plan and pursue fundraising goals by creating new opportunities and partnerships, and by fostering existing sponsorships.
Assume the responsibility for the hiring and termination of staff, including monitoring of goals and objectives related to staff performance, supervision, and evaluation.
Work with the Board of Directors to recruit, orient and nurture potential and current Board members. Provide ongoing communication to the Board of Directors. Attend all Board meetings and provide the Board with a monthly Executive Director report prior to the meetings. Supervise the preparation of monthly Board information packets.
Assist in facilitation of all Board committees and selectively serve on committees that require ongoing Executive Director involvement.
Provide ongoing supervision to Department Directors, and establish and maintain an administrative and organizational structure that facilitates implementation of the strategic goals and mission of PCAF.
Oversee the implementation of all human resource policies, procedures, and legal mandates.
Promote positive communication between staff and management, cultivating and contributing to an affirming, healthy staff culture.
Qualifications
Preferred:
Five plus years of experience as a nonprofit senior executive
Masters degree in Public Administration, Non-profit Management, Social Work, Public Health, or related field. Documented evidence of equivalent effective senior executive leadership may be substituted in lieu of Masters
Demonstrated financial management and budgetary acumen
Successful experience developing and working with a Board of Directors
Comprehensive knowledge of HIV/AIDS epidemic and culture
Demonstrated understanding of the harm reduction model and its role in HIV prevention and treatment
Proven strong public speaking, writing, and communication skills
Relevant advocacy experience with communities and legislators
Broad fundraising experience and record of accomplishments
Established leadership and staff supervision skills
Demonstrated history of effective collaboration and broad community involvement
