Executive Director – Voices Boston (Formerly PALS Children’s Chorus) – Brookline, MA

Summary of Position

VOICES BOSTON (formerly PALS Children’s Chorus) is internationally acclaimed and empowers children to engage with audiences in profound ways. The VOICES choral experience cultivates leadership, generosity, collaborative work and a lifelong love of music and music-making. Our mission is to:

Provide children and young people – regardless of their musical and socio-economic background – with the opportunity to participate in creating excellent, inspired music and artistry and to experience the joy of sharing this with audiences worldwide.
Positively impact the lives of children and young people, building confidence, discipline and leadership, and a passion for music that will last a lifetime.

The Executive Director should be someone who loves children and music, is a fantastic manager, and is entrepreneurial in spirit. This means that he or she will not only able to build and grow the institution, but will be able to do it starting on the current budget ($250,000/year).

Responsibilities

The responsibilities are extensive, as the full-time staff of the organization (that services 150 children) consists of three people, supplemented by part-time support. The board is a highly collegial and supportive group of parents, alumni and community members. The ED is responsible for:

Working closely with Artistic Director
Managing staff
Operations of all rehearsals and performances
Marketing and Communications
Fundraising

Financial operations

With the assistance of the Board, cultivate participation of the parents and wider community in support of the organization
Liaising with Board

Qualifications

10 years of relevant experience
Demonstrated excellence in writing and communication skills
Track-record of institution building, including successful grant writing and fundraising

History

Founded over 25 years ago, VOICES BOSTON is a nationally recognized after-school performing arts program in Brookline, MA, just outside Boston. VOICES BOSTON provides 120-150 children ages 6-14 with world-class choral training, and includes instruction in drama and dance. Past collaborations have included the Boston Symphony Orchestra, Boston Lyric Opera, Boston Early Music Festival, Cantata Singers, and Brookline Symphony.
