As the Museum of the African Diaspora continues to celebrate its 10thAnniversary, it is shaping a new vision for its future that builds on its unique history and values, and applies its mission to the 21st century.People of all ages, ethnicities and backgrounds participate in our innovative exhibitions and education programs, affirming the transformative and enriching power of history, culture and the arts. We provide knowledge, popular content, and resources about the African Diaspora, which includes African American culture, to our local and global communities. We collect, document, and make publicly accessible objects of material and visual culture and extraordinary stories about survival, adaptation, innovation and creativity, ensuring that the journey of people of African descent is available to current and future generations. MoAD connects all people through our shared African ancestry and our common humanity.
The Museum
MoAD seeks an enthusiastic and self-motivated Facilities Director who is passionate about promoting the mission and programs of the Museum of the African Diaspora and ensuring that its visitors, members and artists are served. The ideal candidate is experienced in facilities management and maintenance, as well as developing partnerships with vendors and community organizations.

Job Summary
Do you excel at managing projects and onsite delivery of services – from caterers to contractors? Can you navigate the Department of Public Works to resolve problems on the sidewalk outside the museum? Do you enjoy finding solutions? MoAD’s recently renovated building needs a professional caretaker. We are looking for a leader who will keep it running like a well-oiled machine. We’re seeking an energetic, resourceful, team member to manage all aspects of the site, from the day-to-day tasks, to the longer-term needs of a rapidly growing staff. On a given day, you may help set up new A/V equipment, artfully manage different temperature preferences across the office, hire a new bottled water vendor, and vet contractors for an exciting office upgrade. All in a day’s work!
Responsibilities:
•Keep the administrative offices, galleries, and the museum’s retail store functioning at a high-level of efficiency.
•Create and maintain systems to manage inventory, equipment, furniture, office supplies, etc.
•Coordinate and implement programs for planning and preventive maintenance and facility improvements.
•Manage relationships with MoAD’s vendors, landlord, janitorial staff, handymen, landlord and neighbors.
•Oversee all aspects of facilities planning required for the effective production of MoAD events.
•Participate in development of facilities budget to support preventative and maintenance plans and monitor expenditures.
•Manage budgets related to facilities, IT and phone equipment.
•Assist with the annual Gala and other fundraising activities as assigned.
•Manage security: act as emergency contact for security and alarm systems; maintain relationships with local police and fire departments; implement theft and vandalism deterrents.
•Select new facilities-related vendors as MoAD’s needs change.
•Maintain building operations information so that other staff members have the knowledge and ability to handle basic facilities matters when the Facilities Director is unavailable.
•Interview and manage university level interns.
•Work in tandem with volunteer event specific house managers.
•Assist the Deputy Director in ensuring that all MoAD team
members have access to the best tools and work environment.
•Ensure that the MoAD office layout is conducive to a happy and productive team.
Qualifications:
•Minimumthree years officecoordination or facilities management experience.
•Working knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, carpentry and other maintenance-related areas.
•Willingness to roll up your sleeves and get things done.
•Comfort reading, understanding, and negotiating contracts and leases.
•Basic knowledge of building infrastructure (IT, HVAC, electrical, plumbing, etc.).
•Top-notch written and oral communication.
•Ability to work well with team members across all organizational levels.
•Upbeat and energetic attitude with a sense of urgency to get things done
•Ability and license to drive.
Working Conditions:Physical Demands – Ability to lift up to 40 pounds and frequent use of stairs.
