With over 40,000 members, Washington CAN! is the state’s largest grassroots community organization. Together we work to achieve racial, gender, social, and economic justice in Washington State and our nation. We are building a movement of people whose collective action ensures that all communities are healthy, prosperous, and have an equal voice in determining their future.
For far too long, every layer of government has largely ignored people of color, low-income people, and young people. To win on the issues that matter most, we believe it is imperative that we build political power in communities of color and low-income communities. We must mobilize voters of color, low-income voters, young voters, and so-called “unlikely voters” to turn out by using in-depth organizing methods that build long-term power and authentic relationships with people out in communities as opposed to the typical, transactional election organizing. If we organize well, we will win on issues like raising the minimum wage, universal health care for all, and ending mass incarceration.
