Founding Executive Director – New York – National Coalition of Diverse Charter Schools

Position Description:
The founding Executive Director will be Employee #1 for this new organization, and will report to the Coalition’s governing board. Initial responsibilities will include:

developing a flexible, sound strategic and business plan in partnership with the board
establishing the Coalition as a nonprofit corporation and applying for federal tax exempt status
helping to secure ongoing funding for the Coalition’s work and growth
managing communication with Coalition members and stakeholders
planning and facilitating Coalition meetings
establishing a consistent and effective media and online presence
as the organization grows, hiring and leading a team of staff and consultants
The Executive Director role is an ideal opportunity for an energetic and motivated individual to play a key leadership role in a growing coalition of schools dedicated to equity, diversity, and integration.

Preferred Competencies and Experience:
Prior experience leading, or helping to lead, a start-up organization
Fundraising experience, particularly grant-writing and developing and sustaining support from foundations
Nonprofit management, including some knowledge of operations, finance, human resources, governance, and planning
Leading a group with many different backgrounds, experiences and ideas.
Prior career experience in K-12 education, ideally in the charter school sector or diverse school context
Prior experience working with, or leading, coalition-based efforts
