POSITION PURPOSE~
“To help all, especially the young, gain a greater understanding of the world and its people through hostelling”
To be a guest service superstar. What do we mean by “Star” – doing this job right, with precision, flair and
panache. That is, you need to be great with people, organized, energetic, self-motivated, a team player, a
problem solver, flexible, and have a great sense of humor. Your specific job duties are 50% front desk, 50%
housekeeping, but you are here 100% to ensure the comfort and safety of our guests.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS~
When new guests arrive:
o Welcome them
o Register them
o Collect payment from the customer
o Assign beds/rooms and issue room keys
o Provide information about services available in the hostel and in the community
o Inform guest of all hostel activities
When guests check out:
o Review guest folio if needed and balance +/- accounts
o Store luggage
o Advise housekeeping which rooms have been vacated and are ready for cleaning
Breakfast/Cleaning:
o Timely monitoring of complimentary breakfast
o Cleanliness of prep and breakfast areas as well as overall clean-up at the end of breakfast
o Daily cleaning of all ground floor common areas
o Front Desk has full responsibility for cleaning and folding of all hostel laundry in a timely manner
o Ensure guests are in correct bed and empty dorm beds are made neatly and have a comment card
o Remove unpaid guest property if necessary
o Double check all rooms (private and dorm) to ensure that they are neat and clean before check in
o Assist with housekeeping as time permits
Activities
o Responsible for various staff run activities as assigned by management
o Meals for guests include preparing dinners, working with guests to cook and serve meal, clean up after
meal, facilitate conversation and intercultural understanding, and collect payment for meal.
Additional Tasks:
o Completes daily shift checklist to insure operational consistency
o Maintain inventory of rooms reservations

o Maintain online booking engines (includes both reservations and availability)
o Respond to reservation enquiries via phone messages and email
o Answer telephones and take messages
o Performs related services as requested by Supervisors
o Cross training and work in alternative departments required
SPECIFIC JOB KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY~
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate
that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using
some other combination of skills and abilities.
o Experience meeting people and handling cash
o Work experience in the hospitality industry, retail sales, and/or customer service
o Good judgment dealing with problem guests and emergency or security problems
o Available to work any day/shift of the week including weekends and holidays
o Good customer service skills, Committed to providing good service
o Pleasant, tactful and patient
o Able to communicate well with a wide variety of people
o Able to promote and sell the services of our hostel
o Enjoy dealing with people
o Able to work independently and on a team
o Must be able to lift 50 lbs
o Must be able to climb ladders
o Must be able to work on hands and knees
o Ability to perform housekeeping activities
o Ability to safely use kitchen and cleaning equipment and supplies
o Must have impeccable English skills and ability to easily communicate over the phone

Hours:
Part time 31 to 40hrs (subject to change)
Must be able to work AM (8am to 415pm) and PM (415pm to 12am) shifts 7 days a week.
Compensation:
$10.25 per hour
Part time benefits after 60 days which include medical, dental, vision, 403b, vacation, and sick pay.
