The mission of the Downtown Women’s Center (DWC) is to provide permanent supportive housing and a safe and healthy community fostering dignity, respect, and personal stability, and to advocate ending homelessness for women. Founded in 1978, DWC was the first organization to exclusively serve mentally ill and elderly homeless women on Los Angeles’ Skid Row. At the end of 2012, DWC expanded its housing and supportive services by opening a second home serving 48 additional women. Through both Residences, DWC provides permanent support housing to 119 women with special needs who were once without a home, along with a wide range of drop-in support resources. DWC is looking for a Grants Coordinator who excels in research-based writing and actively seeks information from various sources to understand the bigger picture and maximize opportunity. You will coordinate the entire corporate and foundation grants process from research and writing to reporting, build relationships with current and potential DWC supporters, and help advance DWC’s Fund Development Plan. Reporting to the Chief Development Officer, this position is an integral part of DWC’s Development & Volunteer team.

This Is What You Will Do:

Manage the submission of DWC’s letters of intent, grant proposals, and reports each month. This includes developing strategy; drafting content; and compiling all necessary organizational, programmatic, and financial requirements
Research and identify new funding opportunities as aligned with the organization’s mission and vision to ensure meeting the annual goal of securing $2.8 million in grants and contracts
Coordinate writing and mailing of grant acknowledgement letters in a timely manner
Track current trends in philanthropy through ongoing research
Assist with additional activities in support of our annual Fund Development Plan, including annual and planned giving, capital campaign, fundraising events, and data management
Other duties as assigned

This Could Be A Good Match If You Have:

Minimum of Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience required
2-3 years of previous grant writing, development and/or other relevant experience in a nonprofit organization required
A rigorous, systematic, and disciplined approach to grants research and coordination
Detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to set and meet goals and deadlines
Exceptional skill in comprehension, analysis, and technical writing, including the ability to articulate and explain complex funding and financial issues in a clear, non-technical manner
Strong multitasking and problem solving skills
Demonstrated success as a team player, including the ability to develop and maintain a goal-oriented, positive attitude throughout the organization
Able to interface equally well with the Board of Directors, executive staff, and the general DWC community
Self-starter capable of working independently
Able to maintain composure in a fast-paced environment
Compassion and understanding of the Center’s unique approach to service provision

Schedule & Salary: This is a full-time exempt position. Office hours are 9:00am to 5:30pm, with flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed. Salary range is depending on qualifications and experience, and is eligible for DWC’s comprehensive benefits package that includes training, paid time off, and medical, vision, dental, parking and transportation benefits.
