Legal Services non-profit law firm seeking contract attorney with a minimum of 3 years of legal experience for San Diego County area. Prior immigration law experience is a must, and U Visa experience, pursuant to the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Prevention Act (VTVPA), required. This is a finite project ending April 30, 2017, unless otherwise stipulated. Must be able to confidently handle U Visa cases from start to finish with minimal or no supervision. Motivated, self-starters need only apply. This is a part-time, contract position offered on a 1099 basis. We are a well-known non-profit law firm with outstanding administrative support. Attorney: 3 years
Contractor must be a licensed attorney in good standing, preferably in California.
Must be able to practice before the U.S. Department of Justice, U.S. Department of Homeland Security and its various departments/organizations.
Must be fluent in Spanish written/verbal.
Preference will be given to contractors who have: direct immigration law legal experience both in affirmative and defensive cases; worked with victims of human or civil rights violations; supervisory experience.
Must have excellent and professional written and verbal communication skills in both the English and Spanish languages.
ABOUT US: Casa Cornelia Law Center (CCLC) is a public interest law firm serving San Diego County by providing quality pro bono legal services to victims of human and civil rights violations. CCLC has a primary commitment to the indigent within the immigrant community. Our programs include representation to those seeking asylum, abused and abandoned children, and immigrant victims of domestic violence, human trafficking, and other serious crimes who are eligible under U.S. law for immigration relief. CCLC provides such pro bono representation through support of volunteers, such as private attorneys, law students and interpreters/translators under the mentorship from CCLC staff attorneys.
