The Washington Wildlife and Recreation Coalition is a nonprofit citizen’s group that leverages public funds for local and state parks, wildlife habitat and farmland preservation. Founded in 1989 by former Governors Dan Evans and Mike Lowry, the membership now consists of a diverse group of 280
organizations representing conservation, business, recreation, hunting, fishing, farming, and community interests.
The Coalition’s Board seeks an Interim Executive Director to serve for 4-6 months beginning in October 2015. The Interim will work with and supervise a staff of 7, plus 1 fellow and 2 interns, to ensure that the organization maintains its commitment to its mission and goals and remains in
healthy programmatic and financial condition while searching for a new Executive Director. The Search Committee is not considering candidates who are interested in applying for the long-term Executive Director position.
General Responsibilities:
Provide leadership and management to staff and Board during the search for the new Executive Director.
Work with staff and Board to ensure organizational goals are met, including end of year fund-raising goals.
Keep Board members informed on the organization’s progress and financial and administrative health, and serve as a liaison to coalition Board members to ensure Board member input.
Provide assistance/ support to Board Chair and Committee chairpersons.
Provide assistance/support to the search committee and search firm.
Ensure administrative tasks are completed including payroll, expenses, invoicing, check signing.
Key Projects October 2015 – February 2016
In concert with the Executive Committee, develop a work plan for the duration of the Interim Executive Director position.
Support the work of the policy director to sheppard successful recommendations for revisions to the WWRP that strengthen both the program and the coalition.
Work to strengthen the collaboration amongst Coalition members and develop linkages to insure that input is fully considered, and help cultivate agreement and buy in for a unified coalition positions.
Conduct an organizational assessment. Provide objective feedback to the Board and new Executive Director about the health and direction of the organization.
Qualifications:
Significant non-profit executive experience including working with a Board.
Ability to manage the day to day functions of a non-profit.
Experience as an Interim Director is preferred.
Experience working with a Coalition is desirable.
