Major Gifts Officer – New York – Signature Theatre Company

Signature Theatre, one of New York’s leading off-Broadway theatres, is seeking an experienced, creative, and entrepreneurial development professional to serve as a MAJOR GIFTS OFFICER. A primary role in our Individual Giving team, this position serves as a Patron program officer to oversee growth of Signature’s annual individual fundraising efforts.

Founded in 1991, the Company exists to honor and celebrate the playwright, producing six to nine productions annually. In 2005 Signature began its groundbreaking Signature Ticket Initiative, providing affordable tickets to all of its productions. In 2012, Signature opened the Pershing Square Signature Center, the Frank Gehry-designed 75,000 square foot Center featuring three theatres, two rehearsal studios, a central, public lobby with a café and bookstore, as well as administrative offices. In 2014, Signature became the first New York City theatre to receive the Regional Theatre Tony Award.

Reporting to the Director of Individual Giving, the Major Gifts Officer is responsible for the cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of gifts from a portfolio of high net worth donors and prospects.

Responsibilities Include:
Manage a portfolio that includes up to 200 high net worth donors and prospects
Solicit and secure year-over-year annual giving to the Signature Patron Program, as well as at the major gift level, including multi-year gifts, and gifts to campaigns and special initiatives
Work in partnership with the Director of Development, Associate Director of Development, Director of Individual Giving, and Development Office staff to enhance departmental operations and fundraising strategies
Maintain accurate records of donor outreach and solicitation plans through regular upkeep of donor database (Tessitura)
Participate in weekly departmental portfolio review process
Meet or exceed the expected level of donor activity each week and month (i.e., number of face-to-face visits, asks, calls, personal correspondence, etc.)
Become familiar with Signature Theatre programmatic needs for the purpose of effective donor cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, using available resources and opportunities
Signature Theatre is an energetic, fast-paced, and creative environment. To join our team, we require excellent written and oral communication skills, strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to work well both independently and with others. Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of three years of relevant major gifts experience, and familiarity with pipeline development and moves management required. Annual and/or major gift fundraising and portfolio management experience, with a proven success record in cultivation and solicitation, are critical. Campaign experience is also highly desired. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are essential, both written and verbal. Must possess a strong work ethic, have confidence, take initiative and be a self-motivated, enthusiastic team player. Ability to think creatively is essential, along with enthusiasm and superb communication skills. The ideal candidate can organize and prioritize multiple simultaneous projects successfully, and can work effectively with trustees, donors and prospects, volunteers, and staff. Evening and weekend hours for performance and Patron events are required.
