Job description
We are looking for a unique individual to lead our dynamic and growing Los Angeles office. We are an international non profit that works in some of the most challenging areas in the world. Because we have a very loose culture, we are looking for dyamic someone with a big heart that would like to help change the world. This is not a conventional position!

The Chief Operating Officer will act as an officer and is responsible for the overall internal operations, (implementing new systems, and updating existing systems, financial management, and day-to-day activities of our organizaiton. This officer will work with the founding partners, the CEO, and report to the Board of Directors to help establish the organization’s direction.

In a normal day you might need to converse with grubby children, street vendors, youth cartels, community leaders, politicians and ministers. You will need to be a designer, channel an economist and act as a social worker all at once. Standard operating procedures only go so far, as many of the projects you will be attempting to complete are something new, in places where the parameters change every day. You will need to travel, one day to present to donors in NY, and the next to receive an award in Nairobi!

Responsibilities Include:
Financial, Tax, Risk and Facilities Management:
Work with the finance team, monitor the financial systems, build an annual budget for Board approval. Prudently manage organization’s and donor’s resources within those budget guidelines according to current laws and donor regulations. Verify budgets and approvals for all KDI site works, payroll,

and overhead.
Fundraising: Oversee KDI Kenya’s fundraising strategy, including identifying resource requirements, researching funding sources, establishing strategies to approach funders, submitting proposals, pitching to donors and investors, and administrating fundraising records and documentation. Play key role in raising $200-500k per year. Meet with funders and prospective funders.

Human Resource Management: Oversee the recruitment, training, and development of KDI Los Angeles staff. Maintain a robust HR program and effectively manage team members according to authorized personnel policies and procedures.

Coordinate all communication functions including responding to our members, media and other inquiries.

Help lead advocacy efforts for the continued economic development.

Qualifications/Requirements:
You must have a college degree from a well respected Universtiy. We have a lot of Ivy League grads, so you might want to join your friends here!

The ideal candidate will be energetic, creative self-starter with a proven track record of leading institutional membership growth, community building,event management, and bottom line management experience, a working knowledge of standard administrative and accounting practices, and strong verbal and written communications skills are required.
