Office Manager – Berkeley Chamber of Commerce – Berkeley, CA

The Berkeley Chamber of Commerce is a private, not-for-profit organization established in 1900 to support business in Berkeley. It offers a wide range of benefits to its members and the community, such as networking opportunities, educational events and advocacy to governments. To employees, the Chamber offers two weeks paid vacation, 10 paid sick days, health insurance, and 13 holidays. Its website is at www.berkeleychamber.com. It is located four blocks from BART in downtown Berkeley.

The Chamber is looking for an Office Manager who will support and report to the Director of Operations. It is important that applicants be friendly, active in social media, and project a professional image. This position will be compensated at $15 per hour.

Job Duties

Member Services

Present a friendly impression to visitors
Process memberships: invoice for dues and deposit payments
Help coordinate public events and represent Chamber during events
Make routine updates to website
Maintain a Chamber presence in the social media universe
Create and implement the online newsletter

Office Management

Answer phones, check voicemail, emails, faxes, and other communication with interest to promote the Chamber
Assist walk-in visitors with Chamber information
Perform basic QuickBooks bookkeeping, pay invoices, deposit payments
For fiscal agent accounts, maintain filings, pay bills, handle invoices, etc.
For payroll, transmit hours to Paychex, organize timesheets, process hours summary, etc.
Maintain files of meetings, create and file agendas and minutes, perform other clerical support of board members, CEO and Director of Operations
Maintain office computers, printer, and small equipment (we have an IT person and we have on-call support for our printer which we rent)
Manage office supplies
Oversee all the moving pieces of a small, busy office
Create, manage and report membership data (other data sometimes as well) to board on request
Coordinates facility maintenance adn places appropriate service calls
Supply Membership Director with weekly list of open invoices to be called

Skills Required

Excellent people skills, especially enjoying and working with members of the general public
Strong verbal communication skills, ability to write well, comfort with minor public speaking
High energy, positive ‘can-do’ attitude and a high degree of initiative
Strong computer skills, including working with spreadsheets and databases, experience in membership databases and website content management systems a plus
Excellent organizational skills and time management skills
Professional attire and communication required
Ability to lift 30lbs. occasionally
