The Center is seeking an Opportunities Coordinator for transgender people responsible for the planning, coordination, implementation and delivery of the spectrum of opportunity services for transgender and gender non-conforming people offered by The Center. These services seek to improve economic and educational attainment and socio economic status, including access to education, jobs and housing.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
Plan, produce and manage all aspects of The Center’s Trans Livelihoods Initiative, including all internal and external programming.
Plan, produce and implement the transgender track at The Center’s annual LGBT Career Fair including workshops and individual support to help job seekers prepare for the career fair. Assess the need for a unique transgender career fair, and implement as appropriate.
Identify, develop and manage relationships with various partners with specializations in independent employment, economics and education and career readiness to bring a diverse group of TGNC individuals to The Center.
Develop and maintain an annual calendar of employment, career readiness, workforce development, mentoring, networking, life skills, leadership training, legal and employer spotlight events, including measurable goals which prioritize partnerships that draw a diverse group of TGNC individuals to The Center.
Provide training on trans community needs and concerns to interested educational and employment service providers and organizations, as well as related support services providers and organizations.
Develop, maintain and support a network of providers who are effective in working with TGNC communities around education and employment access and engage in advocacy initiatives that enhance the educational and work environment for TGNC people within NYC.
Recruit, train, supervise, manage and mentor peers, volunteers, volunteer committees, temporary event staff, a community advisory board (CAB) and, where applicable, employee resource groups (ERGs).
Meet specific goals and targets, maintain program evaluation metrics and deliver reports accordingly.
Provide care management that facilitates, coordinates and documents participant-centered care for participants across Center teams and departments to better address multiple and co-occurring concerns.
Supervise intern placements.
Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in a human service, business or related field preferred; Master’s a plus.
Previous experience and demonstrated ability and aptitude in employment, job and career development.
Experience and skills in program development, project management, event production, volunteer/staff supervision, community organizing and outreach.
Strong leadership, administrative, organization, and written/verbal communication skills; bilingual a plus.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with a wide range of personalities.
Detail-oriented and ability to handle multiple tasks at once.
Strong commitment to inclusive, multi-cultural programming; prior experience working with diverse communities.
A flexible, creative, assertive, self-starter a must.
Knowledge and understanding of the issues, needs and interests of LGBT youth, adults, families and community, including knowledge of the spectrum of gender identity and transgender issues.
Experience working effectively in coalitions with diverse communities and an understanding of the intersectionality of oppressions.
A strong commitment to social justice and the mission of The Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center.
