Organizing Director – Oregon Student Association – Portland, OR

ORGANIZING DIRECTOR

The OSA Organizing Director reports to the Executive Director. This person directs statewide campaigns, strategic planning and the organizing team of 8 permanent field organizers on the OSA staff. The Organizing Director works closely with the Executive Director to integrate the field organizing with organizational and legislative strategy, as well as to develop long term plans for organizational development. The Organizing Director is bottom-line responsible for all of the association’s field organizing including developing, executing and directing a large scale statewide student vote drive. This person spends 50% of the time supervising and training the organizing team, 25% in the field and 25% on the other duties.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

Provide on-going supervision, training and development for an organizing field team of at least eight.
Provide day to day supervision for the field team and field programs.
Create and facilitate field team meetings and extended trainings.
Develop grassroots statewide field plans and strategies regarding issues, electoral action strategies, and legislative priorities.
Educate the field team on legislative issues, organizational and statewide priorities.
Give presentations on campus about OSA events, activities, and services.
Give presentations on campus about current issues affecting students in the public policy arena.
Build, lead and support organizational coalitions and outreach to non-member schools and allies.
Develop a statewide recruitment plan for member and non member schools.
Focus on community college recruitment.
Develop and maintain skill and issue based training materials.
Develop summer field team training and orientation for all new and existing organizers.

Participate actively in organizational fundraising.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

1 year of staff management experience
Demonstrable campaign development experience
Strong understanding of grassroots and electoral organizing and strategy.
Experience working with student government and student groups on a college level.
Professional experience training and managing volunteers and/or staff.
In depth understanding of issues facing underrepresented communities
Demonstrable project development and evaluation
Leadership development experience working with young people.
Willingness to work evenings, weekends, and travel.
Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle

Salary and Benefits

$28,500 – $29,500 depending on experience.
Fully paid dental, medical, and vision
