Job Title: President, Greening Forward
Position: Part-time (25 hours/week), volunteer
Compensation: must be able to fundraise his/her salary
Location: this is a virtual position, the applicant may live anywhere in the United States
Position Description: This is a newly created senior leadership position at Greening Forward, reporting directly to the CEO. This leader provides vision, strategic direction, operational oversight, and financial management for this national non-profit organization. The President is the steward of the mission and vision, cultivator of donors, primary spokesperson, and voice of the organization. This position requires travel (up to 1-2 x / month), including many weekends and late night working hours to facilitate the development of larger programmatic goals, create commercial visibility for the organization, and ensure ongoing financial support for Greening Forward.
Note: The President will be considered an intern of the organization for one year, and then he/she will promoted to CEO upon building a proven track record of his/her leadership within the organization.
Prior Experience Requirements:
This role requires a minimum of 3 years of experience in a leadership role in a national/international non-profit or equivalent in corporate, university or government role that created an environment for the applicant to perform the following qualifications:
Extensive experience with multi-year grants, developing long term financial partnerships with major sector organizations, as well as proven track record with individual giving and board development is required.
Track record of effectively leading and nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization is required.
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to lead and coach staff, support the development of high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage annual budget is required.
Experience leading and supporting largely virtual teams from diverse geographies is required.
Training or commensurate experience in relevant fields (environmental sciences, organizational management, education, community development/service learning, broad-based health sciences, youth development/leadership or other relevant topics) is required.
Demonstrated ability to plan and execute extensive national fund raising and donor multi-year campaigns that generate at least $40,000 each year in charitable revenue is required.
Responsibilities:
Strategic Direction
Ensure the development, maintenance, execution, and evaluation of a long-term vision and strategic plan including goals, measures and targets for: (a) People development, (b) Program development, (c) Operational systems support (finance, project and administrative support), (d) Partnership development, and (c) Financial and fundraising plan
Provide thought leadership in key areas that Greening Forward is known for through public speaking (in-person, online and live radio as well as video and television media), publishing (blogs, articles in well-known online and print newsletters), and teaching (internal development of staff, guest instruction at universities) with the purpose of elevating the reputation and credibility of Greening Forward as a thought leader, community building role model, and cutting-edge education organization
Leadership & Management
Recruit, hire, lead, coach, develop, and retain a high performing leadership team (comprised of the VP of Engagement, and VP of Digital Media)
Identify, develop, maintain, engage, and support a strong leadership team.
Work with other staff to continuously professionalize and develop all staff to ensure the quality, effectiveness, efficiency and exemplary delivery of all programs
Oversee excellence, coherence and growth across the organization
Oversee financial and administrative operations of the organization
Actively promote and support inclusivity within Greening Forward and with partners
Program Development
Rationalize the delivery of programs through new and existing offices and partnerships
Increase efficiencies and consistency throughout the organization by developing and implementing standardized programs, services and program marketing
Fundraising
Oversee and participate in the execution of all development and fundraising activities for the organization
Actively engage and energize stakeholders around a fundraising plan, while ensuring clarity, understanding and commitment from all stakeholders.
Expand and diversify revenue generating and fundraising activities to support new and existing programs and infrastructure
Responsible for meeting annual campaign revenue targets
Communications
Develop and use professional networks, speaking and publishing opportunities to elevate, profile and feature the work of Greening Forward
Enthusiasm for and execution of public outreach, public speaking, media engagement and developing staff as champions and ambassadors of the organization through the use of social media and other emergent technologies
Develop and role model innovative communication practices for high-level and effective communication across the organization
Operational Responsibilities
Directs all aspects of effective financial management and reporting (using Microsoft Office Suite), information technology, research, and gift processing.
Ensures organizational compliance with state, and federal charitable governing laws
Special Qualifications:
Outstanding presentation and communication skills and the experience and proclivity to be an outgoing spokesperson, relationship builder, and fundraiser
Strong commitment to the professional development of staff; successful track record of recruiting and retaining a diverse team
A financially savvy and politically astute leader with the ability to set clear priorities, delegate, and guide investment in people and systems; keen analytic, organization and problem solving skills, which support and enable sound decision making
Ability to travel regularly
Ability to commit to at least 3-4 years of service within the organization, preferably 4-6 years
Ability to reconcile that this opportunity does not guarantee payment or reimbursement, although some years there may be provision for such offerings
Salary & Compensation:
The President must be able to fundraise his/her own salary for the position. After being promoted to CEO, the President can request at least a $5,000 stipend/year. The candidate must understand that unsuccessful fundraising years will lead to lower compensation
