THE POSITION

We are looking for a highly skilled program consultant to help us refine our US domestic programming.

Building from our 2012 response to Superstorm Sandy, we currently operate the Rockaways Free Clinic, where we and our volunteers provide, comprehensive primary healthcare consultations, free lab tests, one month of medications, and coordinated referral services to other healthcare providers. We also provide essential social services to uninsured adults.

We wish to identify the specific, potentially unmet, health needs faced by four vulnerable groups in New York City – nail salon workers; survivors of sex trafficking or other forms of forced labor; undocumented migrants; and adolescents living in The Rockaways.

Using this health needs assessment, the consultant will then assist us design new/additional program opportunities that strategically rooted, impactful, and can attract donor support.

Objectives

The main objectives of this 8-12 week consultancy are:

To identify the most pressing health needs of four, distinct, populations/target groups in New York City:

Nail Salon Workers
Trafficked persons, particularly trafficked sex workers
Undocumented Migrants
SRH needs of Adolescents in The Rockaways area of NYC.

Analyze health care delivery systems in relation to service demand, costs, and quality of care for each

To integrate these analyses, identify gaps in health care delivery, and to provide effective, realistic recommendations for improving the health of these groups based upon research and interactions with target group members, other community organization and service partners, and the Department of Health (NYC and NYS).

Work with our development team to incorporate revenue/development strategies into your recommendations.

The Successful Candidate Will Have:

Education: University degree in Public Health or related field. Advanced degree preferred

Experience: At least 6 years of experience in the area of public health

Language: Excellent written and verbal skills in English. Knowledge of Spanish or other community language beneficial

Ability to recognize, analyze, and recommend solutions to health system needs and problems.

Experience in conducting health risk assessments, preferably in vulnerable populations/communities

Deep understanding of health and other related issues affecting nail salon workers; migrants; adolescents and their sexual health; and/or trafficked persons (particularly women and girls)

Knowledge of the methods used to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate health programs

Ability to participate and lead in planning health programs and developing policies and procedures

Proven record of producing timely and high quality deliverables

Experience working with mission-driven organizations or social enterprise.
