We are looking for a Program Coordinator who wants to train the next generation of doctors, lawyers, activists, and educators through a combination of quality academic support and wraparound social services. The ideal candidate is a recent graduate from a four-year college or university who wants hands-on experience working in a community organization dedicated to educational equity. You should be someone who wants to help students tackle the most challenging issues of the day – from #BlackLivesMatter to climate change to the persistent achievement gap in Marin County – in a way that is both supportive and challenging.
The Program Coordinator will gain teaching experience both in the classroom as the lead teacher for our 7th grade and through 1-on-1 student support, as well as experience in the operations of a community organization. As Program Coordinator, you will develop the skills necessary for careers in teaching and nonprofit leadership, anywhere dedicated to moving the needle of educational equity.
Position Summary
Teach one twice-weekly after-school classes of between12-15 students in 7th grade.
Maintain database of student records.
Maintain internal NGS calendar.
Manage partnerships with other community organizations to ensure NGS can offer a full range of programming and services.
Train and manage our volunteer corps.
Ensure all NGS programs run smoothly.
Serve as the primary coordinator for our admissions team.
Plan and coordinate trips for Middle School and High School Scholars programs.
Support staff with administrative tasks as needed.
1-on-1 student support as needed.
Duties and Responsibilities
Job duties as related to academic excellence
Teach our 7th grade afterschool classes.
Ensure that adequate metrics are in place to enable the effective tracking of student progress and success.
With Dean of Students, ensure effective and sequenced course content across our entire Middle School Scholars program.
Schedule individual sessions with all 7th grade students on a monthly basis to review student progress and goals.
Analyze and interpret school transcripts, scores, and program data.
Job duties as related to student support
1-on-1 tutoring as needed
With Dean of Students, track student academic progress on a weekly basis to ensure student success.
Support teachers in the classroom as needed, including occasional substitute teaching and teaching assistantship.
With Dean of Students, ensure all students in need of academic support are matched with the appropriate support.
Job duties as related to student/family interaction
Schedule individual sessions with all 7th grade students on a monthly basis to review student progress and goals.
Connect and coordinate academic and social service resources such as tutoring and counseling.
With Dean of Students, help execute Parent College and home visit programs.
Facilitate Hot Meal program, ensuring daily hot meals are prepared for our students.
Facilitate Food Parcel program, including weekly trip to the food bank to stock pantry and preparing parcels for students and families in need.
With Dean of Students, Coordinate and chaperone junior year college trip.
Job duties as related to community partnerships
Coordinate food and clothing donations from schools and local businesses that support our work.
Work directly with schools to understand students’ academic and social/emotional needs
Serve as the NGS representative to other community organizations working towards educational equity in Marin.
Coordinate access to legal aid for families.
Job duties as related to volunteer management
Screen, select, and coordinate volunteer tutors for various academic subjects through our partnership with Dominican University service learning programs.
Train and support tutors to ensure quality academic support.
Manage and support all parent/guardian volunteers.
During summer, recruit and train high school volunteers supporting our middle school students.
Job duties as related to administrative support
Maintain database of student and family information using Filemaker database software.
Work with Dean of Students to schedule Parent College events.
Work with Director of Programs, coordinate our admissions and outreach process.
Ensure internal NGS calendar is up-to-date and properly distributed.
Job duties as related to site management
Track and order all office supplies.
Ensure all computers and technology is in working order and communicate any issues to our IT support.
Coordinate with outside contractors as needed.
Qualifications
A recent graduated from a four-year college or university.
Strong understanding of the unique developmental needs of low-income high-school-age children.
Experience working with students and families from immigrant communities strongly preferred.
Administrative experience, including collaborative work with parents and teachers.
Excellent communication skills.
Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team.
Proactive and able to find ways to support the mission of the program.
Initiative working with ambiguous instructions.
Capable of building “team” morale and shared vision.
A strong work ethic and a sense of humor.
Must be bilingual in English and Spanish.
