Program Coordinator – Thesecondopinion – San Francisco, CA

The Program Coordinator supports the mission of the thesecondopinion (www.thesecondopinion.org) in providing free comprehensive second opinions to adults in California diagnosed with cancer. The Program Coordinator reports to the Director of Programs and assists the Medical Director. She/he is responsible for assisting in all aspects of Patient Review Panel preparation, patient interviews, office support, and collecting medical records and recording demographic data.

This is an ideal position for a student going into the medical field. Must be able to work most weekdays.

Primary Duties:

Answer phones, conduct phone interviews and complete patient In-Take forms
Explain agency information, instructions and medical release forms to prospective clients
Create patient charts

Pre-Panel Preparation
Maintain patient charts; develop complete Review Panel packets
Work with medical facilities and patients to gather medical records
Request and post medical records to participating volunteer physicians
Physician contact and communication of HIPAA sensitive personal medical information
Facilitate and confirm physician and patient Review Panel dates

Patient and physician Hospitality
Set-up Review Panel venue
Set up all pertinent technologies
Post panel follow-up
Send second opinion/summary letters (provided by Medical Director) to patients and patient physicians
Consolidate patient information and close file

Secondary Duties

Track and Order Office Supplies
Filing, organizing medical record retention
Other duties as assigned
Outreach to cancer organizations and participate in cancer related community events

Skills/Qualifications.

Bilingual in Spanish/Cantonese/English a plus.

Excellent oral and written communication skills, excellent telephone interviewing skills and ability to demonstrate compassion to vulnerable populations who may be under emotional duress.

Ability to work autonomously, with great attention to detail.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.

Must demonstrate computer literacy in MS Office Suite, database management, Salesforce a plus, scanning and data entry.

Previous non-profit, social services or medical office administration preferred.
