Organization Overview
Planned Parenthood is the nation’s leading sexual and reproductive health care provider and advocate. The Community Outreach Group is a part of Planned Parenthood, but a separate organization that supports Planned Parenthood with short-term staffing and large-scale advocacy campaigns.
Program Overview
The Raíz program is Planned Parenthood’s national effort to work with the Latino community on fights for reproductive health, sex education, and access to care. In the first year of the Raíz program, organizers worked on voter registration, Medicaid expansion, immigration reform, and passed comprehensive sex education reform.
Planned Parenthood is partnering with the Community Outreach Group to staff open organizer positions in Las Vegas, Houston, and San Antonio.
General Description
The Community Outreach Group is seeking organizers to work in close coordination with Planned Parenthood’s national organizing team, grow a base of Latin@ supporters, and build power for the reproductive health movement. Each organizer will be assigned to a local affiliate, and will work with Planned Parenthood’s existing infrastructure to develop and execute campaign plans in their assigned area.
The Raíz Program is tentatively scheduled to run through June 30, 2015, with a likelihood of extending. Each community’s campaign will be different.
What you gain from a position with the Raíz program:
• Opportunity to craft and implement campaign plans with Raíz Program Director and affiliates
• Experience recruiting, training, and managing volunteers to participate in canvassing, campaign actions, and other community events
• Coalition-building with local organizing partners
• Develop understanding of how data is used in campaigns, how to develop outreach lists, and ways to analyze organizing metrics
• Practice debriefing each assignment to capture key lessons, build case studies, and create training content for Planned Parenthood Federation of America and local affiliates
• Amplify campaigns through earned or digital media
• Competitive salary, $35,000 -$48,000; depends on location and experience

Specific qualifications include:
• Deep experience living or working in Latin@ or immigrant communities in the US
• Ability to use personal stories to explain why you organize
• Successful experience recruiting new members to an organization
• Strong commitment to meeting deadlines and showing progress towards goals
• Curiosity around new ways of organizing, using data, and building infrastructure for a long-term movement
• Access to a vehicle
Ideal candidates will have experience with at least four of the following:
• Local organizing in the city where you are applying to work
• Holding others responsible to quantitative and qualitative goals
• At least one campaign victory on campus or in your local community – as a volunteer or staff
• At least one cycle as a volunteer or staff doing field organizing on an electoral campaign
• Leading canvasses or phone banks
• Working knowledge of VAN, Excel, a computer language, or another tool for data management
• Workshop facilitation
• Written translation or oral interpretation
• Knowledge of reproductive health issues
• Spanish language fluency
