Resident Service Coordinator- NDS I & NDS II – New Directions for Veterans – Los Angeles, CA

Summary

New Directions, Inc. (NDI) has been empowering veterans and facilitating their successful return to family and society for 20 years. NDI was founded by three formerly homeless Vietnam veterans, who began serving veterans in a single rented house in 1992. Today, NDI employs 85 staff members that provide treatment, mental health services and support to 229 transitional housing residents 24 hours a day, 7days a week, in 5 locations in Los Angeles, serving upwards of 600 veterans annually with an annual budget of $6 million.

New Directions, Inc. will be opening its first Permanent Supportive Housing for development for formerly homeless veterans in July 2013. We are looking for highly qualified, dedicated staff comitted to building a vibrant and sustainable community.

The Service Coordinator works directly with residents in permanent supportive housing to ensure that each resident receives comprehensive supportive services.

Job Duties

Create linkages with outside service providers that offer services that are available and appropriate for disabled veterans
Maintains positive relationships with all service partners
Research services provided and eligibility requirements of each service partner and create materials for residents and case managers that describe clearly the services provided, eligibility requirements and location of each partner and/or weekly schedule of services provided on-site
Work with Case Manager(s) to develop resident service plans
Schedule times and coordinate space for partners who can provide some or all of their services on-site
Coordinate transportation resources for off-site services
Seek out new partners to provide additional services to residents
Organize workshops, events, speakers, holiday celebrations and other enriching activities for residents.
Provide tenants with information about the resources available to them in community and throughout the Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System.
Assist residents in obtaining benefits and services available to them through referral and advocacy
Coordinate tenant council and tenant committees
Coordinate classes and workshops provided on-site to residents

Job Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree required
Experience working with people with co-occurring disorders
Excellent organizational and communication skills
Word processing skills required
Knowledge of VA and community resources as they relate to disabled veterans preferred
Three (3) years of work experience in permanent supportive housing is preferred
Veteran preferred

Salary Range: $40,000-$42,000 depending on experience
