Residential Unit Manager – Italian Home for Children – Jamaica Plain, MA

Summary of Position: The Residential Unit Manager is directly responsible for the overall functioning of an assigned unit. The Residential Unit Manager is responsible for managing all staff within their assigned unit including, maintaining regularly scheduled supervision, coordinating services with team members and ensuring an overall therapeutic milieu setting. In addition, the Residential Unit Manager will assist in improving overall programming and ensuring the highest quality of care is given to the children in the program. This position if full-time and will include day, evening, and weekend shifts

Experience

Minimum of 18 months experience working with children and families
Ability to independently carry out department objectives with limited supervision
Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills
Verbal and written communication skills are essential in conjunction with computer literacy, organizational and motivational abilities
Demonstrated experience in leadership and management of others
Valid driver’s license and ability to operate a motor vehicle safely

Summary of tasks and responsibilities for the position of Residential Unit Manager include but are not limited to:

Direct management of assigned unit, including overall responsibility for the functioning and safety of the staff and children
New staff training and ongoing regular training and support
Monitor, perform and assist in providing behavioral and physical intervention in line with agency training and philosophy
Assist in interviewing, hiring, disciplining, and termination of personnel
Assist with payroll and schedule of milieu staff
Maintain Attendance and Absence logs
Review and track all serious incident reports and restraint reports
Ensure that overall dorm responsibilities are occuring including activity programming, cleanliness, and ensuring all children’s’ needs are met
Provide weekly supervision to assigned staff
Provide regularly scheduled training for milieu staff, including IHC behavior management and crisis intervention
Plan and execute weekly milieu staff meetings
Responsible for new employees’ six-month adjustment review and annual performance reviews
Prepare and/or assist in generating behavioral reports in all required formats. Responsible to ensure all reports are completed properly and timely
Ensure efficient and timely record-keeping
Attend all treatment meetings and conferences as assigned
Monitor, perform and assist in providing physical intervention when needed
Create, implement, monitor and evaluate individualized treatment plans and behavior management programs for clients in conjunction with the treatment team
Create, implement and monitor regularly scheduled community groups with the residents of the program
Process concerns and incidents with staff and clients in an appropriate manner
Assist with the intake process, including assuming on-call responsibilities as deemed necessary
Assist and participate in outreach programs as assigned
Provide House coverage as assigned
Meet the needs of the overall milieu, including adjusting schedules or dormitory assignments, crisis management, and shift coverage
Apply and enforce policy and regulations
