Ten Thousand Villages Seattle is a not-for-profit, fair trade store, seeking an energetic, creative individual to manage our Roosevelt neighborhood store. The Store Manager is responsible for all functions associated with professionally running the store to achieve sales/profitability goals while ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. S/he is expected to effectively manage store operations, inventory levels, and maintain visual merchandising standards. The Store Manager is often on the sales floor to oversee daily sales performance and to supervise staff and volunteers. Furthermore, the Manager builds bridges with the community through marketing, outreach and the development of new partnerships to grow and enhance the sales, visibility and operations of the store. This position has the opportunity to grow to a leadership role to expand the educational mission of Ten Thousand Villages Seattle.
Sales:
Know and own your monthly budget and daily sales goals.
Devise and execute strategies for sales generation in order to meet monthly goals
Actively participate and communicate all promotions to staff/volunteers and customers
Showcase exemplary customer service and solve customer situations diplomatically
Ensure that all customers and floor staff are aware of TTV mission and goals
Actively market store in neighborhood, city, and online, especially during upcoming events
Cultivate relationships with neighborhood businesses/social centers to promote store sales.
Staff Management/HR
Recruit, hire, train, develop and lead staff & volunteers to maintain a strong volunteer workforce.
Ability to recruit and work with interns and volunteers of varying abilities.
Thoroughly train team in all policies, procedures, standards and specific areas of responsibility
Hold team and individuals accountable for abiding to policies and procedures; meeting goals and completing tasks.
Cash Handling/Accounting
Abide by all policies regarding daily deposits, daily petty cash reconciliation and log records; troubleshooting, reconciling and communicating all $ discrepancies.
Provide data to bookkeeper and ensure monthly books are up to date and reconciled.
Operations/Merchandising
Manage profit and loss statement of store to ensure that budgeted surplus is achieved.
Manage all aspects of inventory control through effective use of available tools, such as min/max settings and sales reports to ensure correct inventory levels are maintained. Ensure all ordering, receiving and claims are issued and processed.
Manage store operating procedures, including but not limited to inventory levels, cash control, daily and monthly paperwork and reporting.
Plan and communicate the daily agenda for staff and volunteers at beginning of each day.
Ensure store floor is stocked, visually appealing, meets all standards, merchandise is managed/displayed properly.
Maintain involvement in the local community by scheduling, overseeing and directing off-site sales, special events and store promotions
Customer Service
Exemplify the highest level of customer service standards and reinforce those standards and principles by regularly providing feedback to staff.
Anticipate and resolve customer service issues.
Monitor stores actual conversion rates compared to goals on a weekly and monthly basis. Work with staff and volunteers to ensure these goals are achieved through excellent customer service and effective selling techniques.
Direct and oversee effective floor management and ensure staff coverage in store as needed.
Maintain an awareness and control of loss prevention through attentive customer service and company policies.
Qualifications/Requirements:
A minimum of three years retail management experience which included overall responsibility for store operations, sales, marketing, and accounting. Strong working knowledge of general retail practices/procedures.
Ability to communicate openly with the board members the issues and needs of the store, and receive feedback constructively and creatively.
Experience in balancing multiple, and conflicting priorities.
Excellent organization, communication, planning and interpersonal skills
Self-starting, self-motivating mindset
Demonstrated ability to effectively hire, engage, train and lead staff and volunteers.
Strong interest in Ten Thousand Villages mission – Fair Trade.
Computer and internet competency.
Flexibility in schedule; Weekends required; vacation cannot be during annual holiday season
Small business experience preferred
Bachelor’s degree preferred
Working Hours: Full-time, exempt position subject to the needs of the store. Must be flexible in scheduling and able to work opening and closing shift several times per week, minimum of two Saturdays and two Sundays per month, and entire holiday season (October – December).
