Senior Director, Major Donor Relations – The Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Association – Washington, DC

Reporting to the Vice President of Development, the Senior Director of Major Donor Relations is responsible for the cultivation, education and solicitation of Major Gift donors along with the development and implementation of annual stewardship and engagement plans. The Senior Director provides staff leadership to an Association-wide major donor program, and provides the vision and strategic assistance to help chapters develop and grow their local major giving programs.

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Lead a team of up to four FTE dedicated to growing individual major giving nationally and locally. Develop and improve strategies for increasing capacity of local chapters to grow major giving support.

Develop and implement strategies that nurture and enhance efforts to grow major giving association-wide at the national office and in all 39 chapters.

Identify, qualify/research, cultivate, solicit and steward donors. Personally meet activity benchmarks for individual meetings and cultivation events. Coordinate recruitment and support Major Giving volunteers who cultivate/solicit others within their personal networks for major gifts and contribute a personally significant gift.

Develop and maintain donor reports and processes using the relationship management database. Monitor, evaluate, and report on campaign progress against agreed upon plans, goals and deadlines using specific metrics such as visits, proposals, donor stewardship activities, and revenue generated to ensure campaign progress.

Integrate program into all donor thanking, informing and engaging efforts, especially in regards to planned giving.

Convey a professional and positive image at all times that reflects favorably on The ALS Association.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Proven history of success with four, five and six plus figure current and deferred gifts a requirement.
Basic understanding of planned giving/asset-based giving is highly desired.
Seven or more years’ progressive management experience in a nonprofit environment with staff recruitment and performance management responsibilities.
Previous work experience within a federated model is helpful, but not required.
Proficient computer skills, especially with Microsoft Office and donation management products such as Raiser’s Edge
Ability to travel as required or requested for business purposes.
