Parenting Journey, a nonprofit agency headquartered in Somerville, MA, offers powerful programs that help parents build safer, stronger families and partners with other social service agencies to train their staff to implement and scale our high-impact approach. Since its founding in 1982, Parenting Journey (formerly The Family Center), has provided direct services at our center’s “learning lab” to thousands of low-income and/or immigrant family members annually in Greater Boston. In addition, we have trained more than 1,400 human service professionals who have replicated Parenting Journey’s programs in more than 500 sites throughout New England and New York City to the benefit of more than 52,000 parents and their 130,000 children.

Parenting Journey vision for 2020 is to become the national leader in the design and delivery of innovative programs that focus on helping parents build brighter futures for themselves and their families. Our goal is to significantly expand the reach and increase the impact of Parenting Journey programs locally and nationally.

THE POSITION:

Parenting Journey seeks a dynamic, highly motivated professional to assume the newly created position of Senior Director, Operations. Reporting to the Executive Director, the Senior Director, Operations will be responsible for the day-to-day management of training and group administration, human resources, IT, and facility operations. The Senior Director, Operations will be a member of the senior management team and will work closely with other leaders and a team of direct reports to ensure alignment and achievement of key organizational goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Senior Director, Operations will be responsible for the day-to-day leadership of Parenting Journey’s operations. Key responsibilities include:

Program & Training Operations: Responsible for leading and managing deliverables to ensure the successful execution of 20+ groups for parents and 15+ trainings for human service professional annually. Senior Director, operations will supervise a program team of six, plus childcare and reception staff.

Human Resources: Lead human resource function including recruitment, onboarding, benefits administration, mentoring staff, performance management, and development and maintenance of HR policies and procedures.

Building and Operations Management: Responsible for all aspects of facility management and staffing (14,000 sqf. owned facility), vendor negotiations and relationship management, and all technology and equipment related issues.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:

Important attributes of the Senior Director, Operations include high integrity, sound judgment, enthusiasm, optimism, and the ability to value diverse perspectives and treat all persons with dignity and respect.

The ideal candidate will be a strategic, critical thinker who has a strong track record of meeting deadlines and achieving results in a growing nonprofit. She/He will be highly structured and can successfully manage a large variety of projects simultaneously. In addition, the successful candidate will also demonstrate the ability to foster and support a strengths-based, collaborative organizational culture. She/He will have at least ten plus years of management experience, ideally in a start-up or scaling social service organization.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum of a BA with 10 years of nonprofit management experience; MSW in nonprofit administration or MBA preferred.
Extensive management and operations experience with deep knowledge of the social and family services landscape in Greater Boston.
Demonstrated experience managing and building a diverse team to successfully scale a program and organization.
Keen analytical, organizational and problem-solving skills.
Strong interpersonal and communications skills.
Commitment to recruiting, mentoring, training, and retaining a diverse, high-performing team.
