The South Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation (SoBRO)—one of the nation’s oldest, largest and most successful inner city community development agencies. SoBRO’s services include educational and vocational programs for adults, in-school and after-school programs for youth, affordable housing development, entrepreneurial development and business assistance programs, and a wide spectrum of commercial revitalization activities.
Position Overview:
The Senior Grant Specialist will report to the Director of Resource Development and spearhead the development private and public proposals and contribute to departmental activities as described below. The position offers the potential to grow and take on more responsibilities. Specific tasks include:
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Resource Development
Spearheading the identification, preparation, coordination and submission of grant proposals;
Maintaining written and verbal communications with government, corporate, foundation, individual donors, and program partners;
Conducting research on prospective government, corporate, and foundation funding opportunities;
Following social and economic policy trends as they pertain to SoBRO programs and initiatives;
Providing support for special events as needed including day-of support, direct mailings, and event logistics;
Assisting in the maintenance of the Development Team information and work flow;
Assisting programmatic staff in the preparation of grant reports;
As needed, serve as a liaison to granting agencies on behalf of the organization;
Special projects as assigned.
Communications:
Developing marketing materials on a variety of subjects relevant to SoBRO’s mission, including, but not limited to flyers, brochures, background documents, SoBRO’s quarterly newsletter, and other media communications;
Working across the organization to ensure proper messaging is being executed that helps to meet SOBRO’s objectives;
Updating SoBRO’s website and social media content.
Qualifications:
Minimum three years of experience developing government and foundation grant proposals;
Interest/experience in non-profit work and community/economic development;
Excellent writing and communications skills and attention to detail;
Ability to present information concisely and effectively, both verbally and in writing;
Excellent interpersonal skills;
Excellent computer and design software skills (proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite; Adobe Creative Suite, preferred);
Ability to work well independently and in a team, organize and prioritize work, and multi-task;
Ability to meet strict deadlines and work under pressure;
Experience in Raiser’s Edge or similar fundraising database, preferred;
Combination of education, training or experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential functions.
Bachelor’s Degree in a related field strongly preferred.
