Responsibilities Include:
Serve as the primary content developer for NLIRH in producing varied and integrated communications products, including website, print publications, e-instantes, social media, traditional media and public relations (Op-eds, statements, speeches, talking points), leveraging subject matter expertise on:
Abortion access and affordability
Sexual and reproductive health equity
Immigrant women’s health and rights
Support the Senior Director of Communications and Public Affairs in the development, implementation, and evaluation of effective communications strategies designed to enhance and elevate the mission of NLIRH;
Work closely with and support the Executive Director in her role as the principal voice of the organization, provide both material/content as well as thought partnership;
Develop organizational message guides and position statements;
Support media skills and message training for organizational staff, activists, and other spokespeople;
In partnership with the Senior Director of Communications and Public Affairs, stay abreast of news, messaging and polling trends in the field and incorporate into NLIRH’s work as applicable;
Support and conduct trainings, presentations, and interviews on behalf of NLIRH at national and local conferences, coalitions, events, and state and federal legislative meetings and briefings (when conducting any lobbying, track and record all lobbying efforts in a timely manner);
Inform NLIRH opinion research plans;
Position Location: Washington, D.C. or New York, NY
QUALIFICATIONS:
At least 2 years of experience in public affairs and communications, including a blend of advocacy and media relations;
Candidates must possess excellent written and oral communications skills in both Spanish and English;
Candidates must have extensive knowledge of reproductive health and rights issues and related social justice issues (immigration, Latino civil rights, etc.) with experience in policy advocacy and coalition building;
Outstanding organizational and communications skills, including ability to interact with staff, community/organizational leaders, media, elected and appointed officials, and the general public;
Experience with serving as media spokesperson, along with social media savvy;
Willingness to be accessible and attentive to the media news cycle and its applicability to NLIRH’s issues and priorities;
Demonstrated commitment to social justice issues, including reproductive justice, LGBTQ liberation, human rights and/or Latino civil rights.
