Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Disorders, New York City, Inc. is dedicated to working with New Yorkers and their caregivers who live with the devastating impact of Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias
The Early Stage Center program is designed to meet the special needs of people with a diagnosis of MCI (Mild Cognitive Impairment) or early-stage dementia. Program staff offer consultations to early-stage individuals and their family members, and facilitate programs in the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Early Stage Center. The Center offers a growing number of innovative and creative services including structured activity groups, socialization groups, and support groups.
We are seeking an energetic and compassionate Social Worker to support the Early Stage Center in all aspects of the Program. The Social Worker will report to the Manager of the Early Stage Center. Responsibilities will include:
Responding to client needs by telephone and in person
Providing counseling and information/referral for early-stage individuals and family caregivers
Facilitating and/or co-facilitating existing Early Stage Center groups (e.g. Memory Works, Connections, Movie Matinee)
Helping to develop new projects/groups, as needed
Presenting on early-stage issues at workshops, professional trainings and conferences, as needed
Connecting caregivers to programs and services that will assist in meeting their needs for information, education, support, and socialization
Documenting in a timely manner all client interactions utilizing our database
Performing administrative duties such as keeping program statistics, setting up program rooms, and tidying up after programs
Carrying out other duties, as assigned
LMSW/LCSW, or MSW on the path toward licensure, REQUIRED (Please note that this position does not fulfill the requirements specified by the NYS Department of Education in order to qualify for the LCSW license)
Experience with Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias required
Experience with group work required
Additional Qualifications:
· Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong computer skills, including Outlook, Word, Excel & Power Point
· Strong organizational skills
· Ability to manage a number of projects simultaneously
· Some evening and weekend work is required of all staff
