Mi Familia Vota Education Fund (MFVEF) is a national non-profit organization that unites Latino, immigrant, and allied communities to promote social and economic justice through increased civic participation. We do this by:
Expanding the electorate through direct, sustainable citizenship, voter registration, census education, Get Out To Vote (GOTV) and issue organizing in key states;
Forming and supporting key alliances at national, state and local levels to increase civic engagement; providing technical assistance and support to other organizations;
Increasing public support for full civic participation in the Latino communities.
Job Scope:
The State Director will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for MFV EF staff, programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. S/he will initially develop deep knowledge of field, core programs, operations, and business plans.
The State Director will manage program coordinators in strategic cities of the state, will serve as liaison to MFV EF’s partners; will take a leadership role in building and cultivating C3 civic participation tables at the state and municipal level. Will develop and lead form a MFV EF State Advisory Board and will keep them abreast of programmatic strategies and challenges.
The state director will be a relentless advocate for program initiatives and the overall mission of MFV EF and will actively promote them by developing partnerships with the media.
The state director report to the National Field Director and will be responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the operational aspects of the annual budget. Finally, the state director will develop relationships with public and private funders independently and through state Tables.
Responsibilities:
Leadership & Management:
Ensure ongoing local programmatic excellence, rigorous program evaluation, and consistent quality of finance and administration, fundraising, communications, and systems; recommend timelines and resources needed to achieve the strategic goals.
Instill a sense of financial accountability among team members by modeling tight financial oversight of the organization.
Actively engage and energize MFV EF volunteers, board members, partnering organizations, and funders;
Develop, maintain, and support a strong Advisory Board; serve as ex-officio of each committee, seek and build board involvement with strategic direction for both ongoing local operations as well as for the national rollout.
Attract, lead, develop, coach, and retain high-performance upper management team members, empowering them to elevate their level of responsibility, span of control and performance.
Provide leadership in development of inter-team communication and cohesiveness, sustaining culture and supporting staff during organizational growth.
Develop and implement training programs and retreats to expand the capacity of all staff.
Ensure effective systems to track scaling progress, and regularly evaluate program components, so as to measure successes that can be effectively communicated to the board, funders, and other constituents.
Planning & New operations:
Design the state expansion to key urban centers and complete the strategic business planning process for the program expansion into targeted new areas
Begin to build partnerships in new areas, establishing relationships with the funders and political and community leaders at each expansion site.
Be an external local and national presence that helps establish, publishes and communicates the Latino and Immigrant agenda as well as MFV EF’s program results with an emphasis on the successes of the local program as a model for regional and national replication.
Financial, Community Relations & Communications:
Prepare and submit an annual operational budget, manage effectively within this budget, and report
accurately on progress made and challenges encountered.
Ensure the continued financial viability of MFV EF’s operational units through sound fiscal management
Expand local revenue generating and fundraising activities to support existing program operations and regional expansion while simultaneously retiring building debt
Deepen and refine all aspects of communications—from web presence and all new media to stronger partnerships with traditional media, particularly Spanish language media to both create a stronger brand and promote MFV EF’s civic participation agenda
Publicly represent MFV EF with the media and external constituency groups, including community, governmental, and private organizations and build excitement for MFV EF’s mission.
Qualifications:
The State director will be thoroughly committed to MFV EF’s mission. All candidates should have proven leadership, coaching and relationship management experience. Concrete demonstrable experience and other qualifications include;
At least 3 years of senior management experience, BA preferred.
Knowledge and management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resources modeling, leadership technique, and coordination of people and resources.
Knowledge of principles and procedures for personnel recruitment, selection, training, compensation and benefits, labor relations and personnel information systems.
Knowledge of US politics and civic engagement trends, methods and strategies
Track record of effectively leading and regionally and/or nationally scaling a performance- and outcomes-based organization and staff
Ability to point to specific examples of having developed and operationalized strategies that have taken an organization to the next stage of growth
Unwavering commitment to quality programs and data-driven program evaluation
Excellence in organizational management with the ability to coach staff, manage, and develop high-performance teams, set and achieve strategic objectives, and manage a budget
Past success working with a board of directors with the ability to cultivate existing board member
Strong organizing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures
Strong written and verbal communication skills; a persuasive and passionate communicator with excellent interpersonal and multidisciplinary project skills
Ability to work effectively in collaboration with diverse groups of people
Passion, idealism, integrity, positive attitude, mission-driven, and self-directed
Knowledge of principles and methods for curriculum and training design, teaching and instruction for individuals and groups, and the measurement of training effects.
