Substance Use Counselor – BronxWorks

Join a team committed to high quality harm reduction services at BronxWorks, a community-based organization with over 40 years of experience in meeting needs in the Bronx! The Positive Living Department is seeking two Substance Use Counselors who are Credentialed alcoholism and substance use counselors (CASAC) or CASAC-T. The Harm Reduction Services program works with people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWH/A) who currently use drugs and/or alcohol, or have in the past and seek support to prevent relapse. Responsibilities of the substance use counselor include conducting intake-assessments, developing service plans, conducting re-assessments and service plan updates, referring clients to detoxification and rehabilitation programs, conducting individual and group sessions about substance use, meeting with family members, offering biomedical counseling to clients and partners to discuss use of pre-exposure prophylaxis and post-exposure prophylaxis as HIV prevention tools, coordinating with staff at clients’ primary care providers with the goal of regular engagement in care and adherence to HIV treatment, and offering the evidence-based intervention, Seeking Safety.

CASAC or CASAC-T required. B.A. preferred. The ideal candidate would have experience working with people who use alcohol and/or drugs as well as people who have been diagnosed with HIV. In addition, the ideal candidate would have experience facilitating groups and providing individualized sessions to substance users and/or PLWH/A. Prefer working knowledge of and commitment to harm reduction principles and practice. Bilingual in English and Spanish preferred.
