Organization Description:
South Asian Youth Action (SAYA) is a 501(c)3 youth development organization established in 1996 for K-12 students in need of support in New York City. While South Asian-focused, SAYA is inclusive and committed to connecting youth from all backgrounds to opportunities through tailored programming that consists of academic support, leadership development, career exploration, sports activities and arts enrichment. As the only secular organization of its kind, SAYA provides an accessible, safe and culturally affirming space for youth to develop a strong sense of identity and become future community leaders.
SAYA programming currently takes place during the academic school day, after school and on weekends, and during the summer at 11 sites in Queens and Brooklyn: our Elmhurst Center; two elementary schools; four middle schools; and four high schools. During the 2014-2015 school year, we served over 800 youth, many of whom identify as South Asian or belong to other communities of color.
Position Summary:
SAYA is seeking a Talent Manager to drive strategic talent initiatives in the area of talent recruitment and retention as well as employee engagement and performance management. To be successful in this position, you are someone who enjoys building relationships with people and thrives on fostering a strong culture of collaboration. This role requires a creative thinker, strong communicator, and problem solver.
This is a full-time position and salary will be based on current salaries in non-profits and the candidate’s experience and qualifications. SAYA offers all full time employees with a 100% covered health insurance plan with dental and vision included; 25 days of Paid Time Off; ability to occasionally work-from-home; and slightly flexible office hours.

Key Responsibilities:
Work with the senior leadership team to understand the relationship between SAYA’s mission and the org-wide staffing structure in order to create a comprehensive talent strategy;
Implement a comprehensive recruitment and retention plan resulting in a truly exceptional staff team that will result in better outcomes for SAYA youth;
Maintain SAYA’s employee manual – create updates as policies are revised and ensure all policies are fairly implemented;
Update the recruitment process to include coordinated job postings, screening interviews and reference checks;
Rethink the on-boarding process to have complete employment paperwork, training on online payroll systems, sharing company policies and conducting background checks;
Maintain all employee benefits like the health insurance plan and flex savings accounts: annual renewal of the plan, new employee enrollment, maintaining coverage for staff as required, and assisting staff with questions;
Manage the annual performance evaluation and compensation review process, with a focus on coaching managers on delivering meaningful feedback;
Integrate career development into the broader talent management framework (i.e. succession planning, career development, mentor program, etc.);
Oversee the learning plan process for SAYA employees;
Identify key areas for learning to support managers and leadership development for all staff;
Develop and facilitate trainings with staff at all levels of the organization;
Conduct exit interviews, analyze feedback trends to identify areas of concern and make recommendations for improvements;
Conduct an annual employee engagement survey, analyze results, present key findings and develop a plan to improve gaps.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Nonprofit Management, or related field;
5+ years of experience in a Talent/Human Resources role is required. Experience in recruiting and/or resourcing is desired;
Must have strong working knowledge of state and federal employment laws and regulations;
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills. Well-developed presentation skills;
Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple projects;
Excellent interpersonal and relationship building skills;
Willingness to learn and grow with the organization;
Ability to analyze and synthesize information from multiple sources;
Belief in SAYA’s mission of supporting youth reach their full potential.
