DOROT seeks a passionate, magnetic Rabbinic Counselor to guide its Jewish Summer Teen Internship Program (JSTIP). The program encompasses the rich components of Jewish learning, connections, and service to isolated seniors through visits to the homebound, intergenerational workshops, fieldtrips and service-learning sessions. JSTIP’s goal is to attract a diverse group of 20 high school students who will collaboratively explore the range of values and ideas that underpin Jewish Peoplehood through daily volunteer tasks and weekly reflection.
The ideal candidate will have the compassion and skill to guide interns in their discovery of core Jewish concepts through weekly group and individual learning opportunities and connect the teens’ positive feelings about volunteering with positive feelings about being Jewish. The successful candidate will be an experiential educator, a creative thinker, and possess strong group facilitation abilities.

DOROT staff administers all the program logistics and plans the daily schedules of teen volunteer tasks. The Rabbinic Counselor will develop and facilitate the program’s educational and group dynamic components and will work in partnership with the JSTIP Madrichato run the program.
DOROT’s Jewish Summer Teen Internship Program is a recipient of support from the New York Teen Initiative for Immersive Summer Experiences for Jewish Teens: Incubator for Emerging Experiences, a joint project of UJA-Federation of New York’s Commission on Jewish Identity and Renewal (COJIR) and The Jewish Education Project, with support from the Jim Joseph Foundation.
Primary Responsibilities:
Serve as lead staff for a four-week Summer Teen Internship Program
Develop educational content and workshops
Facilitate volunteer training, group dynamic and reflection sessions
Capture the teachable moments outside of formal group time to contextualize interns’ experiences throughout the day with personal touch points of Torah learning
Provide individualized support and guidance to, and develop relationships with participating interns
Guide and supervise teen interns as they plan and facilitate weekly phone and video intergenerational classes
Support and partner with JSTIP Madricha and summer college intern to plan and facilitate aspects of the program
Provide written information for grant reporting to the Department Director in August
Special projects as assigned by Director
Ongoing Responsibilities:
The goal would be for the Rabbinic Counselor to be available during the 2016-17 academic year for up to 50 hours, an average of 5 hours per month. Responsibilities for this time period will include planning and leading alumni events in October, December, and March, and helping present to funders and DOROT’s Board.
Knowledge, skills and abilities:
Rabbinic student or applicable Judaic education
Formal study of and experience in experiential Jewish education and service-learning
Experience working with high school students
Excellent group facilitation and presentation skills
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong organizational skills and the ability to multi task
Proven success record in working both independently and collaboratively
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 2010, particularly EXCEL
